Hooker Furniture Living Room Melange Connelly Hall Console
Everything that people do comes with a reason. This reason is not something that’s appealing all the time, though. Each person has his or her own taste and preferences, design and styles, even their own life spheres.
A Rad Movement
The field of art had a movement called Eclecticism. This is still an unrecognized style on its own despite the movement’s success. For many this is still seen as a distinct movement. The term eclectic was first brought to the public’s attention by Joha Joachim Winckelmann. This was a term used by Carracci when painted and fused traditional and Renaissance pieces.
There’s a wonderful story behind this art movement. Eclectic style means the combination of elements or styles coming from different eras or periods. These then become a single project despite their varied origins.
Balance Is Key
Don’t think that eclecticism is all about putting in different styles and praying that they would work. On the contrary, there is a beautiful harmony that is happening in every eclectic piece. Let eclectic style into your home by adding different pieces of furniture coming from various unique places. Think also of all the elements that you could add to make the entire design look like a whole, willed piece.
Achieving Eclecticism
The eclectic style is very easy to love. While this is so, it is not easy to achieve. If you want your next design project to center on this style, then you need to outline and do’s and don’ts. Here are the DO’s –
Do remember the layout. When you are planning the space for an eclectic space, you might get caught up on what textures, colors or patterns you need to bring together that you forget about proper placement.
The layout is one of the fundamental things that you need to consider when setting up a room. The furniture layout is equally important. This is what would give you comfort and aesthetics. So before you begin purchasing the things that you will bring in, check out the furniture options. You might end up realizing that you don’t actually have ample space to welcome a sectional.
Consider utility as well. Remember always that the room is meant to be lived in, eventually, so let utility lead the decorations. Utility is a wonderful decorator. Allow it to make the decision for your fabrics and colors. Consider bookshelves, baskets, card tables and drink trays. These provide a lived-in look to any home.
As for the don’ts, let’s begin with don’t forget the focal point. As you arrange your layout, while you are combining different pieces from different eras, you must still remember to have a focused look. This means that some of the pieces will serve as accessories while one significant piece should serve as the focal point.
Be consistent. The nature of the style that you chose is varied so every room – while being different – must still complement the others. Have eclecticism throughout your home but create a flow that’s obviously there.
Always make sure as well that you’d pick one dominant color. This will serve as the unifying factor for the rest of the design elements. Color is also a great equalizer so you need it to create an overall look. While color is quite powerful, make sure that you do not compare hues. Don’t go sampling on all available paints for your wall. The trick is to make a decision then create a lineup of colors that are a shade or two lighter and darker than your chosen color. Don’t confuse yourself into lining up so many different colors that you end up feeling nauseated.

FFDM Summer Home Collection: The unifying color in this traditional bedroom is brown in different shades.
Color preferences vary per person, per personality. Some folks like it bright and daring, some feel more secure with neutrals, still others like to experiment. The good news when it comes to using colors is that there is no such thing as a correct palette.
Have you ever gotten inside a home where there is an explosion of colors only to feel that every room seems to be detached from the rest? What’s missing here is what’s referred to by interior designers as cohesion.
The Cohesive Paint Color
A simple way of creating a more cohesive feel is to have color consistency on walls. Connecting spaces, in particular, should have paint color that will harmonize them. This is especially true in an open floor plan.
This does not mean that you should automatically resort to gray, white or beige. You can still use a color that suits your preference so long as the hallways, the foyer and the main connector room are all painted in the same color. The color that you use there will serve as the dominant color in your home.
Plan the Color for Sightlines
People who want variety in their wall colors should pay more attention to sightlines. These are those areas when you are standing inside the living room and you get to look into the other rooms. A clear view of the dining room or the kitchen from there means you have to paint these three rooms with the same paint color. The key here is for all three rooms to work together. Paint them in different colors and what you’d get is a weird look that simply won’t work.
Pick Color Groups
Just as you are admonished to choose your friends well, this is also the case when it comes to choosing your color gang. Your color scheme must effortlessly flow from one room to the next. To achieve this, make sure that you get colors from the same temperature family.
Some people choose to work with the warm color palette, others the cool color scheme such as the blues, grays, and greens.
Another option is to pick one or two hues then use variations. If blue happens to be the main color, then you could pair it with gray-blue or you can always go with pure blue which shifts to navy blue as you move from one room to the other.
This same concept can be used in using decorative accessories.
As for your wall paint, paint stores can provide you with tint of particular colors. Your chosen main color can be knocked down to about 50%; all the mixer has to do is to add more white each time. You can go lighter or darker with the main color that you choose.
Walls should be painted two to three shades lighter than the ceiling color. This won’t look stark when you decide to use white.
Paint decks are also great inspirations in finding colors that harmonize.
Edgy Colors, Hid
Rooms that are out of sightline are great places to experiment on in terms of wilder colors. Powder rooms, master bedrooms, kids’ rooms, and other rooms that are encased in four walls are places that you could colorfully indulge.
So, have you always wanted to paint a room black? Begin with the bathroom!
Bold Colors, Cute Accessories
Accessorizing is an easy way of introducing dramatic hues. Limit the bold colors on your accessories, this is if you’re still uncomfortable about the whole switch from neutrals to bold colors.
Choose a color that will excite the senses, bright colors are great in highlighting a thing or worth.
Tie the rooms with accent colors that alter from room to room, though continuing with the major color throughout. Blue and green in the living room, for example, will mean using one of these colors inside the dining room. You could do blue and yellow in the next room.
Always keep the colors cohesive so that your theme would make more sense to you.

This lovely Hooker Furniture Living Room Melange Gianna Chest 638-50066 fuses the Old World and the New in a seamless manner.
The Tudor monarchs, according to history, were able to bring comparative peace and prosperity throughout England, Ireland and Wales. The wealth of many landowners was invested in buildings. Theirs was a moment of cultural bursts and classical architecture revival for Italian style. The Tudor style is a class of its own.
Europeans had a moment when gothic was at the center of their style. The perpendicular style has broken away from all this. The Tudors were the ones who developed fan vaulting (evident in the Gloucester Cathedral cloisters).
Now let’s go to a dating feature known as the Tudor Rose. This is a red rose badge with a white rose badge within. This signified the union of Henry VII to Edward IV’s daughter. This is now a decorative piece that is used to signify posh and sophistication to the highest levels.
Renaissance features can also be seen inside Tudor dwellings. These features are confined to the wealthy and the elite members of society then. Henry enthusiastically built Italianate motifs.
Then came Elizabethan homes where old homes were torn down only to be built anew. Most homeowners were then yearning for improvement as that was the great period of building. If you have ever seen those narrow yet all townhouses complete with borough walls, then these are the homes of artisans and merchants who built their homes slowly through the years.
Homes of the wealthiest members of the society are often built with huge windows and decorative chimneys. Glass was then used in Elizabethan homes with glittering glazing designs. The most elaborate fireplaces are set up and ceilings were slowly decorated with strapwork.

Hooker Furniture Living Room Melange Gianna Chest 638-50066 comes with a feminine pair of cabriole legs but with a masculine Old World design.
Tudor Is Symmetry
Symmetrical plans will always be favored in Tudor settings. Otherwise, Renaissance in classical details appears so then you can find fireplace, doors, and columns. Round-headed arches and niches together with all the other features of Tudor style were revived during the Victorian period.
Tudor may be an old fashioned style but it can become a part of modern living, too. The styles come originally from the UK during the 15th to the 16th centuries and are now a huge part of tourist attractions.
Genuine Tudor design can now be recreated but your place doesn’t have to look like a tourist spot, though. Only a few are lucky to live inside a genuine Tudor dwelling so for the rest of the world, repros are the answers.
Mock Tudor generally refers to black and white semi timbering on the facade of buildings. Interior design, however, is much more distinct. If you are careful enough in making your design decisions, then you can even recreate the Medieval era of trade, arts, crafts and intellectual awakening right inside your home.
There is no architectural detail that is more recognizable under the Tudor style than the iconic half timber structures. The exterior of homes can be laden with stucco, wood or stone. Imitate this same style by exposing the very structure of your home.

Hooker Furniture Bedroom Rhapsody Urn Pedestal Nightstand 5070-90015 comes with classic designs and a rustic finish.
Gable roofs are also common which give the homes their gingerbread appeal. Modern-day Tudor replicates the genuine Tudor Dynasty through architecture and interior design revivals. If you haven’t yet, you should install tall, narrow windows with small panes. Modern day cladding is acceptable such as flagstone, brick and stucco.
As for the outdoor landscaping, be sure to have manicured hedges, brick walkways, fencing and pool houses. These amenities should set you apart from the neighbors but in a nice way.
The Old World style can also be brought inside the kitchen through wrought iron and wood combinations in furniture pieces. Custom islands and wrought-iron lighting fixtures are also a huge part of Tudor interiors.
Are you ready to take on Tudor design, a unique style right inside your home?
