How to Create the Appropriate Corporate Setting

Thursday, February 1st, 2018

Hancock and Moore Home Office Berwind Swivel-tilt Chair 1298ST: The office chair will spell the difference between a comfy work or a stressful one.

You have probably heard corporate people associate the word culture to their work setting. When this word is used in this setting, it becomes the force that guides behaviors even when the employee handbook no longer covers certain scenarios. It is also the setup whether you have an open-door policy at work or if the employees are afraid to share their ideas and suggestions.

So what makes a great corporate culture? Since every culture has its own qualities and techniques, what will be detailed here are the universal guidelines that will make employers and employees more productive and happy at the same time.

The corporate setting should not be a place of torture. It must never be a place that employees dread to go to every day. Instead, they should look forward to doing their jobs and to collaborating with co-workers as they progress through the day.

The jobs should not be there to provoke people or to induce stress. And while work may turn out to be difficult at times, it should not lead to depressions and frustrations. It should, on the contrary, have a culture that can easily alleviate these stress-related occurrences.

So how can an office culture remain positive?

Hire the Right People

When making hiring decisions, bluntly put, do not hire useless people. Bring in candidates that are willing to work on your projects with a smiling face. Remember when they say that work only becomes work when it ceases to pique your interest?

Then be able to glean people who really love what you are doing. Remember this – no amount of elegant offices can make jerk employees want to work there. Your hired people will be the ones who will embody the company culture so hire the best and willing ones.

Hire People with Vision

When you think you already hired the right kinds of people, then it’s time for step number two which is to glean them further. These employees must know your company’s mission and vision by heart.

Don’t rely on mere interviews to show you how much of an asset these people would become. To know if someone is already truly onboard, ask about their thoughts on the company’s mission and vision. Ask them how they can apply these to their daily lives.

Hooker Furniture Home Office House Blend L Desk: The right office chair paired with the best desk will surely result in increased productivity.

Provide All Office Needs

Since the employees are there to provide the force behind the company, they would need tools to be able to do their jobs. Now that you have an actual office, then it’s time to think about the furnishings, office supplies, and other essentials.

First that you need to consider are desk supplies. These are the basics such as pens, paper clips, staplers, staple wires, punchers, notepads, business cards (where applicable), etc.

You should also look at how you can maximize the use of technology in the office. Everyone must have a powerful smartphone, a laptop computer, and tablets. While you might easily balance the different campaigns and accounting details of the business, still, it pays to have some type of software or gadget to keep the data in.

You are able to function better in this manner since the computer can take care of data storage.

Speaking of software, you need to have a few applications that can help you in managing the business especially in handling customer service and accounting tasks. Also, don’t forget to install a timekeeping device.

The third thing that you need to immediately look into are the office furniture and storage. Consider what kinds of office chairs will be used. Do you prefer leather or fabric upholstery? How about a functional desk?

Know that the right kinds of furniture will give the office a more professional looking ambiance.

How Decluttering Can Change Your Life

Wednesday, January 31st, 2018

Hooker Furniture Dining Room Studio 7H Stol Upholstered Arm Chair: As the saying goes, cleanliness is close to godliness so you might as well take the time to declutter in your own home.

There Internet is recently bombarded with a trend called organization porn. This has nothing to do with pornography or anything that is lascivious in nature. This is actually something appealing since it requires organization skills and well-curated art pieces that are used as everyday items. A gorgeously minimalist living room is an example of a well-organized space.

So what are the general reasons why you might not be able to clean up the mess in your home? Many homeowners stress over these things and, perhaps, there is a solution for these common woes –

There is simply too much clutter. As everyone goes through life, we tend to pick up objects that are not necessarily needful. For example, the Christmas balls that were used two years ago (because you wanted to have a different-colored tree last Christmas) are now dumped in the attic. They’re there together with your extra waffle iron and blow dryer.

To solve this dilemma, stop being attached to material stuff. If you are keeping them for sentimental reasons, then just take a photograph then file the photographs and do not hoard the stuff. Give away the stuff that other people could still use.

You don’t have ample time to clean up. You might think that this is a pretty valid reason to have a less than ideal home but it is not. While it may take a lot of time to organize just a single room, the simple solution is always to take it one day at a time.

You don’t have to finish the task that same day. If the room has accumulated a lot of unused stuff over the last months, then you logically should not expect to have it cleaned up in just a few hours.

Don’t even be tempted to give up.

You don’t know what clean feels anymore. Perhaps you have spent so many months or years slipping into the bad habit of not cleaning up. The sad result is that your house is no longer clean and presentable. You could, again, be tempted to just leave the clothes on the floor or to have the coat rack take on more than it could bear – but just don’t.

To solve this never-ending loop of bad habits, remember that a clean home is tantamount to being physically and mentally healthy. So spend enough time to keep your home clean all the time.

A Positive Effect

It has been studied that people who have clean homes tend to be healthier than people who have unorganized habitats. Associate professor Nicole R. Keith, Ph.D. of Indiana University pointed out the health risks that can be prevented with a clean home. Imagine not having to worry too much about heart disease since you live in a clean home.

Another study that was published in 2010 in a scientific journal also proved the connection between depression and a dirty home. According to the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, women who lived in cluttered homes showed higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.

The Princeton University also came up with its own study wherein the visual cortex was found to be overwhelmed by irrelevant objects. When this happens, it is observed that the subjects became less focused and had a shorter attention span.

Another amazing effect of decluttering is that people with clean homes tend to choose healthier lifestyles. Since clutter tends to stress the brain, it has been observed that people resort to stress-eating when they are placed in an equally stressful environment.

Sleeping better and being more productive are also other benefits that you can expect from keeping your home clean. If from now on, you would want to stay in shape, then you have to create a list of goals to keep you motivated. Plan your cleanup regimen and set realistic goals.

Building a Home That Reflects Your Culture

Tuesday, January 30th, 2018

Fine Furniture Design Living Room Beautiful Friendship: If there is one beautiful thing about Moroccan style, it is its magnificence. Very few pieces can emulate the opulence offered by such a furniture piece.

Different cultures come with different styles whether this is about fashion, beauty, food or interior design. Even when there are these differences, there is one thing that is universal – having a house that we can call home.

There are many different design elements across the globe. In the Middle East, for instance, the homes prefer a more traditional and timeless approach to designs. You are likely to see opulence due to the premium use of velvet, marble, and other such high-end materials. it is also common to find rugs and carpets in this part of the world.

The Malaysians and the Chinese are just as opulent but they show a different level of luxury. To them, bold colors and intricate furniture designs are most welcome. There are also indoor plants that offset the flood of golds and wooden furnishings.

The African design, however, is influenced by the humility of their cultural roots. They tend to get inspiration from animals, woods, and other tribal colors and patterns. The beauty of the world is their highest design element.

The French are different from the rest of the styles because they are always refined and classy. The French prefer posh textures, lavish fabrics, and lots of natural and decorative lighting. Scandinavians are just the opposite because they thrive on minimalism and neutral elements.

It is for these different styles and preferences why your space should be set up according to your taste. The interior design should be a testament to who you are and maybe even where you come from.

Here are some other ways that you can pay homage to your cultural heritage through your interior design –

Decorate with Your Culture in Mind at All Times

You have to learn to decorate with your culture in mind. Be able to express your lifestyle and beliefs according to how you were brought up and where you developed your belief system. If, however, you have lived in a Western-style home all of your life and would like a taste of other culture, then you are always welcome to alter your design.

Just make sure that you change your interior design to a style that you love and which suits your taste.

Decorate Your Kitchen

Now, why is it important to focus on the kitchen when decorating culturally?

Always, you would see Mexicans cooking Mexican foods inside their homes. You will find garlic, onions, bell peppers, and the most colorful spices there. If you’re Mexican and you have these most amazing spices and flavorful ingredients, then it would be wrong to place them in a Japanese kitchen.

After all, Mexican cuisine is all about celebrations and frivolities while Japanese centers on simplicity and rawness.

Be able to show your friends who you are through the elements that you bring into your kitchen.

Maitland-Smith Accessories Sherwood Finished Cast Brass Chinese Temples, Black Waxstone And Glass Base: The Chinese are, understandly, a proud race because they have a rich culture and history.

A Cultural Collage

Designing your home, especially when you and your spouse come from different cultural backgrounds, could be difficult. In circumstances like this, find a way to highlight both of your personalities, beliefs, religions, and styles.

Do not be afraid to show the cultural root of each. Display significant travels to your hometowns and think of displaying a canvas showing the different places that you have visited as a couple.

Fusion of Religion and Style

Will there ever be a point in this world where religion and style can co-mingle? Oh, absolutely!

Religion and culture will always be linked and since you are now being inspired to decorate according to your culture, then know that one of the biggest aspects of culture is religion.

Allow religion to weave to your interior design by adding hues, photography, and the most interesting accent pieces that are associated with your religion.

Still on Mexicans, they are a proud nation that shows their Catholic faith so it is common to find wooden crosses in their living rooms and bedrooms. The Chinese, on the other hand, believe in everything connected to Zen living so you will see water elements and temple figurines in their homes.

House Plants and Your Wellness

Monday, January 29th, 2018

Uttermost Accessories Tree Topiary Preserved Boxwood 60095: Be stylish and healthy with this indoor plant.

There are many clear benefits to spending a few hours or even just a few minutes outdoors. This is what the Japanese refer to as forest bathing, that moment when you walk through the greenest trees and bushes. But would you just like to experience this awesome feeling when you’re outdoors? Or would you like to reap the benefits of having houseplants brought in?

Houseplants are a lot more than mere decoration. A lot of studies have shown that greenery in your home or even the workplace can contribute to positive moods, lower stress levels, and a clean feeling because the air gets filtered somehow.

If you want to improve your health as well as the aesthetics of your home, then you can hit these two birds with the single stone that are house plants.

A single potted plant for every 100 square feet is highly recommended. This or you can ask an interior designer how to best customize the indoor plant placement in your living areas.

Grade A Air Quality

Indoor plants have amazing air purifying effects. This was declared by no less than NASA in 1989. According to them, plants can easily detoxify space stations. If the plants can do it in there, then they could just as easily do it inside energy efficient buildings.

There are many different kinds of indoor plants that can be effectively used to remove benzene, formaldehyde, and other types of pollutants in any sealed chambers. Common golden pothos and spider plants have been observed to be most effective.

Other plants that offer air cleansing benefits include the ficus, dracaena, English ivy, Chinese evergreen, peace lily, bamboo, reed palm, and the philodendron.

If you want to lessen the risks of stroke, ischemic heart disease, respiratory infections, COPD, and lung cancer, then be ready to embrace these new decorative elements.

Experts have yet to agree as to the reasonable amount of houseplants that could cleanse a significant pollutant level. But for as long as you have potted plants indoors, you, somehow, take the first steps towards a cleaner environment.

Increased Productivity

Who wouldn’t want to have an increased amount of activity in a home office? Since we all live in a world of computers and gadgets, humans tend to be disconnected from Mother Nature so it makes sense that you bring in a little of nature to enhance the mood in a workspace.

Science supports this concept as was published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology in 2014. If you like to increase productivity and job satisfaction, then be sure to bring in a potted plant or two in your home office.

Healing Influence

How would you like to be free from ailments? Studies on flowers and plants show that they have a positive effect on the recovery of surgical patients. In fact, these patients tend to have less need for painkillers when they have greeneries to cheer them up. They also reported less fatigue and anxiety.

Plants are known to significantly reduce the time that a patient heals inside a hospital. There are also pieces of evidence of the positive effects of horticulture therapy where patients actually take part in caring for plants while they are recuperating.

It is possible that these healing effects take place because plants are amazing filters of airborne microbes. A study at the Washington State University proved that a house with plants has 20% less dust.

Just be careful that you don’t bring indoor plants as gifts to patients who have recently undergone transplants or are immune-compromised. These people are more susceptible to bacteria in the soil so it is best to wait for them to recover before you even consider giving them indoor plant gifts.

Lounge Around: 5 Tips for Buying the Perfect Couch

Friday, January 26th, 2018

Lounging around becomes more classic with the Hooker Furniture Living Room Montgomery Sofa.

Are you thinking of buying or adding a new sofa? Don’t just settle for ordinary sofas. This time, go for the great sofa or couch choices.

Before you begin shopping, though, always consider your personal style and if your preference will match the architectural details of your home. Consider the scale, the size, the colors, and never, ever forget to measure.

Fabric and color options do matter, too. Pick the right texture, color, and patterns for the fabrics that you select. But, of course, sofa choices aren’t based on fabrics or upholstery alone.

Here are some sofa buying guidelines to remember –

Measure Your Space vs. the Sofa

When buying a couch, first, you must measure the space. Make sure that the seating unit will not eat up the entire room or vice versa. Take that measuring tape and measure between the arms of the couch as well as the floor area where it is going to be brought into.

Check the Sofa Frame

The frame must not creak or wobble. It must be sturdy and should sit fully on the floor. The creaky frames are the ones that are indicative of easily-damaged joints. Strong frames, on the other hand, are the ones that sit squarely even when you move them from side to side.

The frame, as well as the corners, are all padded. Take the time to run your hand over the padded areas. The frame must not stick out from the padding. Also, notice how the fabric should not create too much friction as you run your hand through it.

Check for any hollow areas. Pat the center of the couch.

If you happen to be buying a recliner or any sofa with mechanisms, then be sure to check that each part is working. Motion furniture is pricier than your regular sofa so be sure to check that each movable part is functioning.

You also need to check the metal parts, if there are any. Make sure that each one is smooth enough and is free from dangerous edges. Every moving part of the recliner or sofa bed must also have zero tears on the fabric. You would not want to get injured or to cause damage to the new furniture after just a few days or weeks of use.

Check the Seats and Cushions

The seat cushions are an important part of the sofa. They must be resilient and firm to the touch. They must also fit the sofa frame snugly. These cushions should be able to regain their shape when you get up from sitting on them.

Cushions that remain pressed down or flattened will end up looking unsightly in the long run. Also, they will become more uncomfortable to sit on.

The seats should always be comfortable more so for recliners. Choose shallow or deep seats based on your height. The taller you are, the deeper your seat should be.

Flexsteel Living Room Recliner 2877-50: Each movable part of this relaxing motion furniture is functional and easy to operate.

Check the Arms

As soon as you’re done checking the framework, seats, and the cushions, it’s time to inspect the arms of your sofa. These should not move or jiggle. If these are upholstered, then they must be padded comfortably and snuggly.

If your couch comes with buttons, then be sure to check if each is sewn securely. Take note that loose buttons tend to come off or could get lost. And just like any tailored piece of clothing, be sure to check the patterns, texture, and stripes that should match the sofa seams.

Check the Materials Used

There are many couch materials that are used in manufacturing the best (and, unfortunately, the worst) sofas. The most fragile ones are those that are made of particle board. You wouldn’t want to do anything with these since they are only made of fused wood materials.

Hardwoods are wonderful options. These include solid wood frames made of cherry, oak, beech, walnut, etc. Choose the kiln-dried type as much as you can so that the couch frame won’t snap or even warp.

Dream Big, Work Harder (At Home)

Thursday, January 25th, 2018

The exquisite Belvedere Collection: Here is a writing desk that is perfect for your classic home office.

While anyone can do his job wherever he may be, this is not an option that is readily available to all. If you are one of the few who has the choice to sip a cocktail while doing your job, then you’re blessed. And since you have the freedom to work practically anywhere, this does not mean that you shouldn’t have a steady place where you’re supposed to be productive. It’s time to set up your home office.

The benefits of working at home are too many to enumerate but the most obvious are having no geographical limits, savings from transportation expenses, more time with one’s family, a quieter ambiance (which is dependent on how well you chose the home office location), fewer distractions, and the avoidance of traffic.

While you have realized the logic behind working at home, many employers realize that some employees may be wasting their work hours in tasks that are not really work-related. As the one who’s employed, then you have to do your part in maintaining if not doubling your productivity. If you have just set up your own business, then all the more that you need to put your shoulder to the wheel.

Setting Up the Home Office

As more and more homeowners have set up their home offices, quiet rooms, and libraries, this does not mean that you can take the design for granted. Having a home office as a regular part of your home now should not make you default into a room where there’s a table, a chair, your laptop, and nothing more.

There are ways for you to increase your productivity in your new home office. You should consider making this zone one of the most interesting spaces in your entire home.

First, learn to coordinate the patterns. You have been in an office setup. You know that it sometimes takes a professional-looking setting for you to jump-start your activities. Don’t just go for the matching types of patterns.

Develop an interesting pattern on the window treatments as well as the home office furniture that you choose. While you are encouraged to experiment and bring in furnishings that interest you, it also wouldn’t hurt to trust the sets of office furniture and accessories. These should help you keep your office more streamlined and organized, something that a newbie designer should trust.

Be inspired. It pays to have your creativity spurred by your favorite color or by the mood that you would want to invoke in that place. Use accessories that will pop from the background. Silver, brass, gold, and other metallics are effective pieces to add.

A swivel chair becomes more interesting when there is, say, a fusion of leather and metal.

Your home office can also have its unique statement if you choose a statement chair. Be bold in your choice. Don’t go for everything that’s cute and too cubicle-like. Transform the overall vibe in the room by adding a chair that will instantly catch the attention of any visitor. If you want this chair to pop from the background, then be sure to use a white backdrop or anything that’s neutral.

If you want to travel the safe path, then you won’t go wrong with natural elements.

5 Home Office Setup Mistakes

Many people have already committed the no-nos when it comes to home office decoration. You don’t have to learn from your own mistakes. This time, read about the classic mistakes that homeowners have made –

Ignoring the floors up the walls. An inviting home office is all about having a nice coat of fresh paint. Some inspiring prints on the walls could also make a huge difference.

Leaving the cables out in the open. Cables that remain unhidden are accidents that are waiting to happen. Keep these cords hidden.

Un-comfy chair. ‘Need we say more?

Wrong lighting. Who says home offices should only have task lights?

Having limited storage. Now, there are desks and chairs that double as drawers or storage units – make good use of these.

Sweet Dreams Are Made of These: Different Bedroom Essentials for the Bachelor, Lady, and a Growing Kid

Wednesday, January 24th, 2018

The stylish bed is made more luxurious by this Fine Furniture Design Accessories Bed Step 1110-988.

Does your bedroom look like it is the haven of impulsively purchased or random pieces that do not tend to blend? If there was a way – any way at all – that your snooze zone could improve, would you go for it? No one can argue with the importance of restful sleep. Lately, there’s been an ongoing craze about minimalism where people buy only the needs or the essentials.

If you were to choose the pieces that you could consider as essentials in a bedroom, what would they be?

Whether you live in a spacious or a compact place, there is but a handful of bedroom essentials that you or the next Joe should consider.

The Bachelor’s Dream Bedroom

Bachelor, lady or a young kid, you will need to sleep in order to recuperate from the many stresses during the day. You don’t have to skimp on your bedroom expenses, after all, that restful night could mean the difference between success and failure.

A functional and comfortable mattress should be a part of your purchase. Don’t just check the bed frame, see also the quality of the mattress. Whether you prefer a memory foam, gel, innerspring, air bed, water bed or latex mattress, it is up to you to check each of your choice’s quality.

Since you are a college student no more, then you have every right to want that heightened bed frame now.

The best sheets must also be bought. As a bachelor, you should also learn to tie the whole bedroom by matching the sheets with the other design elements.

An alarm clock would also be a nice addition so you won’t have to resort to your iPhone for your morning wake-up alarms.

What’s a bedroom without a reliable and stylish storage unit? Featured here is the Universal Furniture Bedroom Wardrobe 543A160.

The Woman’s Posh Boudoir

The arrangement of a woman’s bedroom is a tad more difficult. This isn’t the room for a girl who can just have pink walls and pink sheets. Nope, this is now the room for a lovely lady who will be in need of a functional cabinet, a lamp or two, a dressing table, cabinet, curtains, and a mirror.

Choose colors that are apt in a lady’s bedroom. There are hues that represent femininity but don’t bother too much about this anymore. You know why? Because navy blue or black which works in a bachelor’s bedroom can now be used in a working lady’s room as well. If these colors are a little too masculine for you, then you can always opt for the likes of burgundy, bottle green, or Ultra Violet which are still bold, interesting hues without being overpowering.

If you would take the time to look at the history of women’s bedrooms, they came with the original term – boudoir – and they started in the 18th century. Before it became purely a place of rest, the boudoir is also a place where ladies hosted their social gatherings.

If you want to follow the same classic path, then you can go for white or bluish shades for the ceilings. These are the hues that give off the most relaxing vibe. Molding can also be added so that it becomes an interesting visual element in this room.

Use heavy drapes throughout the room then have mirrors installed. These should emphasize your classic choice. You can then cap your design by choosing parquet for your flooring material.

‘Wanna add some artwork? Why not?

A Growing Child’s Room

More often than not, it is the parent or both parents who decide the theme for their kid’s bedroom. If you’re not designing a nursery, then you can go ahead and ask a few suggestions from your little one, too. After all, he or she is going to be the one who will sleep in this room.

A child’s room can be a place where he sleeps and where his belongings could also be stored. These include toys, educational books, clothing, and shoes.

Just like the male or female bedroom, a kid is also in need of a sturdy bed, carpeting (preferable but not entirely required), cabinet or drawers, a reliable lighting fixture, a bookcase or two, and other storage units.

It’s a Purple 2018

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018

Uttermost Accessories Iris Beauties Floral Prints in Sets of 6.

What color do you get when you mix red and blue? You get a most interesting hue called purple or violet. This year, this awesome color takes center stage as it becomes the Pantone Color of the Year. Ultra Violet takes the limelight with its luxurious, powerful, and magical beauty.

Purple in Color Psychology

As many people already know, colors have a way of affecting people’s psyche. As for purple, it is a color that’s known to calm the nerves. It is also known to trigger a person’s creativity as well as spur calmness over the mind.

Bright purple, in particular, is seen as the color of royalty and having a vast amount of riches. Dark purple, on the other hand, is the color of sadness and even frustration.

Compared to primary colors, purple is not used as often in decorating or designing homes. Yet when used, this color is no less than the symbol of quality and royalty. In fact, many businesses who want to be recognized as luxurious brands tend to consider purple as their company or logo color. Examples of these are the Hallmark logo, Cadbury, Yahoo, and the LA Lakers.

The Capel Incorporated Floor Coverings Jazzy Shag Rug in purple is the epitome of comfort and luxury.

Purple Interiors

If you want a unique color to design with, then Pantone’s 2018 color choice should be your first option. This is a wonderful color to decorate with. Think of using lavender, lilac or other shades of this royal color. Don’t just stick with Ultra Violet even though this is touted as the color to paint your walls or to upholster your furnishings with this year.

There is so much to embrace in purple that is awesome. It is not a color that’s to be used on an accent wall alone. It can be as vast as the theme of a winter or spring wedding or it can be the accent to add visual interest in a mainly neutral home.

So, if purple is such an amazing color, why did it take this long for it to become the color of the year? Also, why are a lot of people afraid to decorate with it?

Purple can be a hue that is so powerful that it can easily overpower a space. You have to learn to handle this color with such confidence so that you won’t create chaos. Instead, you should be able to create a home with purple blended professionally and infused with care with all the other design elements.

Whether you love or hate this color, the truth remains that it is the star hue this year and you’ve got to learn how to decorate carefully with it. Of course, it would be unwise to paint an entire bedroom with glossy purple.

For anyone who is looking into using purple, you might want to begin with lighter shades first. The lighter the shades, the less overwhelming they can be. Begin with accents in purple. If you’re feeling more confident, then you can go ahead and paint an entire wall purple or have the couch upholstered in purple.

Your wall’s decorative elements will also play a huge role this year. These can also become more interesting if purple were to become the contrasting color. Contrasting hues of purple are gold or lime green, even yellow. You can also do the ombre effect by using lighter or darker shades of purple for your chairs and other furnishings. Wall décor, side lamps, frames, and artworks can also come in bold purple hues this year. Just make sure to blend them properly with the rest of your design elements.

There is no denying it – purple is trendy this year. When you are looking forward to having a spectacular and fashionable interior design this 2018, then this is your jaw-dropping, go-to color. In a nutshell, here are some suggestions where you can use purple –

  • Purple accent wall or walls
  • Purple ceiling
  • Purple throws
  • Purple rugs or lilac carpeting
  • Purple bases for your lamps
  • A purple door (why not?)

Wake Up to a Kitchen Banquette

Monday, January 22nd, 2018

Deluxe kitchen banquette seating: Marge Carson Dining Room Valentino Banquette VO42

It is known throughout the world that the kitchen is the heart of every home. The most important meal of the day is prepared here. Even if the kitchen is this important, not a lot of people would prefer to eat their meals there – unless they have an exquisite kitchen banquette already set up.

A kitchen banquette is no less than the best place to have a coffee in during your first hour of being awake in the morning. Apart from being the best place to enjoy an early morning cup of coffee or a tasty stack of pancakes, the kitchen banquette also offers these benefits –

A Place for a Huge Crowd

If you happen to have a big family, then all the extra space would help make the world a saner place for everyone. What about if many of your friends would want to drop by all at the same time? Where would you have each one of them seated?

An obvious benefit of having a kitchen banquette is that you can sit a large group because of the long bench and extra chairs. There is practically a room for everyone.

A Simple Home Addition

A kitchen banquette is also an easy way to add an extra living space in your home without spending a lot. All you need to add is a bench then top it with some cushions. It can be a weekend project for the entire family.

Color Infusion

Kitchens are often boring with their solid colors and huge cabinetry. Don’t make this same error, instead, make your kitchen more exciting by adding a kitchen banquette.

This year’s color is interesting. Try adding purple as cushions on your long bench. A U-shaped banquette in a neutral color can be dressed up by merely adding interesting hues as throws.

Pattern Inclusion

The kitchen banquette can also provide the necessary layer of prints which you won’t see on the walls, floor, and the ceiling. If you want a cheerful kitchen, then be sure to add some interesting layers of patterns such as Ikat or nautical stripes on the pillows or cushions.

Concealed Storage

The kitchen banquette is also the perfect spot to hide some storage units. Those secret drawers can be concealed right under the new long bench.

Even the simple cabinets that you add in the kitchen would give you that extra storage for your dinnerware.

Or a casual banquette seat: Lexington Dining Room Mode Leather Dining Banquette

Added Functions

Dinner tables have long been turned into homework areas. If you hold longer homework sessions, then the place to be is no less than the kitchen banquette. This is that laidback area where you can work on your crafts and other collaborative projects.

Choose between Casual or Luxurious

A kitchen banquette is often casual and is perfect for many cottage style homes. Enhance the relaxed atmosphere in this area by adding mismatched pillows.

If, however, you prefer to have a more luxurious kitchen banquette, then be sure to add curvy details on your seats. You can also have a sculpture or two somewhere.

Added Seats

More often than not, the reason for adding a kitchen banquette is the lack of seating areas for larger families or for homeowners who love to have their friends come over and pay them a visit.

Today’s kitchens are, thank goodness, multi-functional so you don’t have to worry about where to sit those visiting peeps. The smartest solution is to bring in a bench built with smart storage and to bring in extra chairs that complement the bench and table.

The visitors can even enjoy your cooking activities while they wait for you to serve the meal.

This is a Family Room (Be Confused No More)

There is a huge difference between a family room and a living room. For many decades, people have been confused when asked to describe the difference between these two. Both spaces are places where people can socialize and gather. The open space layout that is now an in thing in design also made the issue even more complicated.

Formal living rooms the more casual version which is the family room, still both exist. The main differences between these two can be seen in their function, layout, and their placement.

Location

A living room is often situated in front of a home. This is often near the entryway and is often used to welcome guests and to entertain them during formal occasions.

The family room, on the other hand, is often located at the back of a house. It is near the kitchen and usually adjacent to the patio, deck or any outdoor space. This room is just reserved for the family and is often used daily. At times, close friends and relatives can be entertained there, too, although the gathering has to be casual.

Casual or Formal?

The furnishings in a family room and the living room are often the same in terms of function. Since these are both spaces where people gather or socialize, they both have seating units such as a group of chairs or a couch.

In a family room, though, the furnishings zero in on comfort and a more casual, laidback appearance. This is a spot where you are likelier to see recliners and plush, comfy sofas. In the living room, furnishings are often more stylish and, yes, a lot more formal. For instance, wingback chairs are quite popular in living rooms.

The living room is also a spot where family heirlooms are typically found (e.g. a grand piano; an old, valuable painting; wooden chest; etc.).

To Entertain or Not to Entertain

Family rooms, since they are casual, are the zones where the family gathers to play games or to watch their favorite TV shows. The family can also set up the DVD player and sound systems there. They can have this zone stocked with the classic and modern movies.

In the more formal living room, these essentials are not found. Here, you are likelier to find pieces of art and family portraits.

The Décor

A lot of modern homes now blur the differences between living rooms and the family room. It is appropriate to still define the difference between these spaces so that the proper tone and, eventually, the theme can be set.

The family room should have warm and inviting hues. It must also have plush and the most comfortable furniture pieces. It can also come with an entertainment system and lines of bookshelves.

The family can also be a space where immediate family members can relax and enjoy. Here, they can unwind and just be themselves without putting their best foot forward.

The living room must come with as different mood. This is a place for that elegant leather sectional. This is also the right spot to put that antique chaise. This is also a room where you can appropriately welcome your dinner party guests or even host your holiday get-togethers.

How to Arrange Family Room Furniture

The arrangement of the furniture all begins with the definition of a focal point. If the room comes with a fireplace then it automatically becomes the focal piece. However, having a TV set in there could cause a bit of confusion.

To avoid this confusing scenario, have the TV and the fireplace on different walls then have the other furniture pieces arranged toward the television.

Remember to place the biggest furniture opposite your focal point.

Next, be sure to create a conversation zone. Add a coffee table in front of your couch then set up some storage units for your board games and set up the shelves for some books.
