Paisley, as you already know, is an intricate pattern. This isn’t for the simpleton as it comprises a complex blend of colors on a harmonized palette. Many cultures influenced the paisley design. It came to the west because of cashmere trading coming from the Vale of Kashmir, then to India, and all the way to Europe. Kashmir is at the border of various cultures. It is near China, India, the Middle East, which is no surprise that these cultures influenced paisley designs.
The Paisley History
Paisley was first introduced on the 18th century in the west. Though this may be the case, its real origin, even the shawl patterns (more popularly known as paisley shawl) are a lot older.
There is a difference between the original designs and the later styles. Early paisley depicted flowers and every possible part of nature while the modern designs show a lot of style and intricacies. It is also notable how there are similarities between the floral designs of paisley and Chinese calligraphy.
As you now know, early designs are naturalistic. There was also an awkward phase as paisley became more blocky and geometric.
Cashmere paisley shawls were then exported to Europe and the Middle East. When this happened, due to a different requirement in these regions, the designs deviated from the usual naturalistic depictions. Pretty soon, Islamic nations craved for geometric designs, but none of the representations of people and objects.
The West soon has its own aesthetic desires. There was a demand for anything that is exotic. Soon there were imitations of cashmere shawls that were being produced all over Europe. These pieces lacked the originality and imaginative designs that were characteristic of original cashmere shawls.
Europeans produced their own shawls with designs replicating the beauty of Kashmir and Indian designs. Notable European producers came from Norwich in England and a place in Scotland called – Paisley.
Europeans made more affordable shawls because they did not have cashmere access. They used wool and silk blends yet they could not weave more colors. Compared to their Indian counterparts, the European paisleys were quite subdued.
Interior Design Applications for Paisley
The activity that is often seen in paisleys can be hushed by certain colors. Use baby blue, lavender or vanilla to create visual interest without overdoing the design. These color combinations can be good enough for nurseries or bedrooms.
Muted paisley wallpapers can also be used especially when accented with bright accessories.
The paisley rug can effectively harmonize a room that uses color blocking. Find a rug that uses the same hues in the space so that it can unite the look.
These days, paisley is being revolutionized as it is mixed with large scales and bright colors. Let this design do most of the talking in your chosen theme.
Mixing paisley with other patterns is also a wonderful way to up the style, even the personality of a room. Many people freeze at the very idea of mixing different patterns, though. Most of the time, they are just not sure how to begin.
If you want to use paisley with other patterns, then use the odd numbers scheme. Use no less than three different patterns that vary in scale – from small, medium to large. Fuse different kinds of prints like check, florals, stripes, geometric, polka dots, plaid, toile, and paisley.
Choose your largest pattern first as this will serve as the anchor of the design for the rest of the room. The largest pattern is the one that will make a bold statement for the rest of the design. if you intend to use paisley as your large scale pattern, then there won’t be much effort on your part. Paisley will definitely speak for itself.

Just like all appliances and furniture, closets nowadays come with more than one purpose. A smart closet is one piece of furniture that is known to hold clothes which can also be the sitting room or dressing room itself. Closets these days are more durable, adaptable and more convenient to use. You can improve the functions of your closet whether it is big or small.
Walk-In Closet Needs
If you are in need of a dressing room, then you need to place a closet that is huge enough to store your clothes. You can also consider having some shelves where shoes and bags can be placed.
Another piece of furniture that you must have there is a chair. This is needful during those moments when you need to wear your stockings, socks or shoes.
No walk-in closet is considered complete till a mirror has been installed there. The place where the mirror will be hung has to be free from blockage. To test whether you have ample space, get three feet away from the wall where you plan to install the mirror. There should be nothing that could hamper your view of the mirror. The back of a door is a great place to install one.
Dressing Room Needs
Apart from the furniture requirements for a walk-in closet, you would also need an ironing board and an iron inside the dressing room. It would also be nice to have a vanity table on one corner. This will hold all of your cosmetics and toiletries.
Adding a television inside the walk-in closet or dressing room is also becoming more common. Make sure that you have it installed at eye level so that you would maximize your viewing enjoyment.
The Smart Closet General Requirements
It is wise to take advantage of every possible space in your dressing room or walk-in closet. Have some bins on your high shelves or roll out boxes on the floor. An additional closet pole would also make a huge difference on the amount of clothing stored in that room.
Consider also your lighting. Closets work when you are able to see what items are inside it. Windows offer natural lighting during the day but it is important to use only sheer curtains rather than thick drapes. Should you be tempted to use drapes, then make sure that you install proper lighting whether it is pendant lighting, recessed lights or the classy chandelier.
Artificial light also has to be provided between you and the closet’s contents. Remember that incandescent bulbs tend to heat up so they become a fire hazard in the long run. Fluorescent lighting is best because it is also code-compliant.
You also need to know what your smart closet will hold. Are you fond of wearing dresses more than shirts and pants? Then you’d need a taller closet to hold your dresses. Many closets have ample hanging storage but not enough drawer or shelves.
Do you stack or hang clothes? When you are the former, then seek out a smart closet that also offers enough shelves or drawers where you can place your shirts, blouses, socks and hankies.
Think of the clothes that you regularly wear and how you get dressed. The design of your walk-in closet, dressing room or even the closet that you buy all depends on these factors. It pays to have your clothes and accessories visible at all times. This sort of arrangement will give you real choices once you are getting dressed.
Use wire bins, belt and tie racks, shelves, and other adjustable storage items to maximize your dressing room or walk-in closet.

The marriage of white and anything wooden is a lovely fusion that will make the white kitchen more exciting.Featured kitchen piece is the Universal Furniture Dining Room Kitchen Table 323653
A lot of people are drawn to bold patterns and bright colors in their kitchens; only a few even have inkling of the beauty that a white kitchen could offer. You cannot, of course, specify to use white materials for all your fixtures, furniture and finishes. Doing so won’t finish your kitchen makeover task. Remember that this hue is not the most forgiving color, don’t you automatically see even the most minute dirt or details when they are placed against a white backdrop?
White easily reflects light. Compared to dark hues, it does not absorb light so it is best used in accentuating materials or keeping them right smack on centerstage.
In the wrong hands, white can feel sterile, unwelcoming and too cold. If you have to use white, then know which materials will make it less boring. Natural wood has a tendency to make white more interesting. Adding wood in your furniture or flooring, for instance, can add charm, warmth and character. Dashes of bold colors will also look great on a white backdrop. If you want a serene surrounding still with dashes of white, then use it together with tan, shades of beige, gray or any other neutral colors.

Lamps and Lighting Uttermost Glacio 2 1 Light Kitchen Island Fixture 21249 will provide illumination in a white kitchen, making it appear more spectacular.
White Kitchen Personalized
Get ready to shell out $60,000 USD all for good results according to the National Association of Realtors. This is how much every homeowner needs to prepare for when renovating a kitchen. If you want to renovate without breaking the bank, then come up with a white kitchen.
The white kitchen allows the homeowner to make his own personal touches. The accent colors, artwork and accessories will surely pop out if you use white as your canvas. If you are serious about using white on your upcoming kitchen remodel, then you have a lot of thinking to do. This is a color scheme that can stand the test of time as it will always look fresh and clean.
Psychologically, it has also been observed that white releases positive vibes. It can also add space visually which is great if you are stuck with a small kitchen.
White is also the artist’s playground. It can feature artwork, framed photographs, wall sconces, fireplaces, and just about anything that you would want to highlight.
White is also highly available when you are out to find tiles, sinks, faucets, even appliances. There are also white countertops, shelves, even white concrete.
White is the ultimate canvas.
Why Is White So Popular?
The color white became quite popular in the mid-20s till 30’s. This was the sole color offered by all manufacturers then. If you would look back then, it makes a lot of sense because white is linked to health and sanitation, two things that were needful to keep the flu epidemic from spreading then.
These days, though, times have changed. White is an enduring color, it is timeless, it is clean, but it can also show even the slightest amount of dirt.
The popularity of white wasn’t just used in furniture creation and in room painting. Even appliances that are colored white tend to outsell the colored ones. The number of white cabinets also made waves because people tend to favor this clean color for their cabinetry. Just think of white as a monochromatic means of beautifying any room.
White simply says no to going out of style.
Should the White Kitchen Be All White?
The answer is – of course not. You can still have stainless steel appliances even when you have a kitchen painted in white. The key to keeping this color exciting is to balance it with the rest of the theme. Be sure to scale your options properly so that white still remains the dominant color in your white kitchen.

Check inside the drawers and shelves for pieces of paper that are no longer needed. Featured desk is the Winners Only Home Office Sofa Table/Writing Desk AZL100S.
Have you ever felt powerless when you arrive home and find clutter strewn all over the floor? Doesn’t this feeling escalate when you find that all the other rooms show the exact amount of clutter throughout? Here are some tips that you can follow as you go about with your spring decluttering –
Begin to Declutter
Decide to make this change now – start to declutter your room. Focus on what you need to clean first. Instead of wandering without purpose or cleaning just a bit each time, you can break down the cleaning to phases or to different rooms.
There might be just a little or a lot of decluttering tasks to do but no matter, you still need to stay motivated to finish the task. Throwing paper clutter can be time consuming especially when you haven’t cleaned your desk drawers or shelves for a whole year or so.
Total Declutter
There are some tasks that can affect your entire home but many homeowners find it more effective to walk from room to room then decluttering from there. Rather than being stuck in just a small area, it is best to get about and start cleaning.
So go ahead, pick up that broom and mop and let’s clean up that mess – whether you have a small or a big home.
First, look for those crumpled sheets of paper, those useless tourist brochures or leaflets, and many other printed materials. Those that are no longer needful should be thrown away.
A good mindset to develop if you ever want to declutter your home a hundred-percent this spring is to let go of things that you no longer have a use for. Else, you would just be hoarding a huge amount of garbage that you won’t end up using anyway.
Check out any coupons that you might have collected in the past. See if the dates are already expired and if they still aren’t, ask yourself if you really are ever going to use such coupons. If not, then it’s time to say goodbye to them, too.
Next, it’s time to clean your office space. Dust off from ceiling to the floor. Be sure to clean the desk drawers, coffee table, chairs (especially the upholstered ones), mirrors and many more.
Should you consider keeping a few brochures, then be sure to add a vision board or keeping a household file.
Next to the home office, you could go to the bathroom. This can also be a room for clutter if you do not have the right storage solution installed. If you want to achieve a semblance of order in your bathroom, then be sure to organize items in there.
Decluttering the bathroom can take just 10 minutes. Begin by putting a trash bin right by the bathroom door. Next, toss any of the dirty towels or face cloths into the hamper. Replace them with fresh ones coming from your linen closet.
If you find any laundry items on the floor, remove them and place them inside the hamper as well. Recycle items such as used tissue papers, empty rolls, shampoo bottles, etc.
Decluttering the bedroom can take less than 15 minutes. Begin by dusting the night tables and tossing garbage to the right bins. Put used linen in the hamper and clean up the rest of the dressers. Sweep the bureau’s or dresser’s top part and see if there is also clutter there.
Cleaning the kitchen is paramount because this is the place where foods are prepared. Sweep the countertops, Kitchen Island and the rest of the kitchen floor. The key to a clean room is to put things back to their proper place. Find the right storage space for every little thing that keeps ending up somewhere where it shouldn’t be.
You see, spring decluttering can also be fun. Do this task with your family and observe how the hours slip more quickly.

Consider livening up the color of your living room by adding colors from nature. Here, touches of orange and yellow give life to the neutral backdrop. (Featured set is from the Belaire Living Room Collection of Jonathan Louis)
So it’s spring once more! We’re pretty certain that you’re ready to freshen up your crib and update your furniture. Spring cleaning does not have to spell a sore body or burnt skin. This may be the case for some but you can make a difference by knowing which chemicals contain questionable ingredients. Just a brief warning, here are some of such cleaning agents –
Danger: Corrosive
To begin with, ammonium chloride is often found in deodorizers and toilet bowl cleaners. These can cause permanent damage to your skin when not handled correctly. It is also highly corrosive to the eyes.
Aliphatic petroleum solvent which is an ingredient in most carpet cleaners can damage the nervous system while crystalline silica (also a popular ingredient in many cleaners) is also filled with carcinogen which can irritate the skin, eyes and lungs.
Lastly, tripropylene glycol monomethyl ether which is found in waxes, floor cleaners and polishes are known to have caused kidney failure and narcosis in some people.
Spring Cleaning Must-Haves
Instead of resorting to those chemical cleaners mentioned above, it is best to have these safe and natural household cleaners.
Spring Cleaning Can Be FUN
Who says spring cleaning has to be a drag? Fun begins when you play some upbeat music. This will keep you energized as you do all those scrubbing and sweeping and wiping. You can also engage the kids to clean up by having pizza after everyone finishes his or her chore.
If the weather is nice, go ahead and open your doors and windows to let in that fresh air. This, of course, will also increase your positive energy.
It is also important to pace yourself as you clean up your home. Most home will not be cleaned up in just one go (at least this is the case if you want some deep cleaning to happen).
Create a checklist to break down the different rooms into sections during the week. You should also break down sections of the room per person along with an estimation of the time it would take to finish each task.
Sort and declutter in major rooms first. Sort out those items that you would like to say goodbye to and those that you can still donate or sell.

Be sure to cover upholstered, especially white furniture, when dusting off surfaces. Featured here is the Huntington House Dining Room Banquette 2403-41.
Spring Cleaning from the Top Down
This is one of the most important tips in spring cleaning. The last thing that you would like to do is to keep sweeping the floor all because you have not properly segregated the cleanup. For instance, it is advisable to clean the air conditioning units and the ceiling first before you even begin to dust the furniture.
Working from the top down will save you a lot of time, resources, and energy.
To this rule there is, of course, an exception. In the case of walls, it is best to have it cleaned from the bottom up and then back down again. Those grimy soap suds would be a lot harder to clean when found on clean walls. The only way to remove them is to work your way up again to remove prior drips.
Another important rule is to dry clean everything before you even begin to wet clean. Remove the dirt so that it won’t result into a muddy mess. This means you must sweep before you mop, dusting all fan blades before you wash them, and vacuuming windows before you wipe them with wet rags.
Spring cleaning also means checking those overlooked surfaces such as door frames and baseboards; search the dirtiest places in your home, and freshen everything up even your furniture.

Check out the best upholstered furniture during this season. Featured here is a loveseat from the Fine Upholstery Collection of FFDM.
Do you believe that spring furniture shopping is spurred by life experiences? For instance, don’t people buy or sell furniture during events such as weddings, births, deaths, moving, holidays, or even a child going to college?
The key to maximizing your spring furniture shopping is to properly anticipate your purchases. You need to understand why you are making the purchase or if you might just be reacting to a fashion impulse.
Spring Furniture: The Living Room
Living room furniture pieces are a staple of furniture shops. Loveseats and sofas are consistently there whether it is spring, winter, autumn or summer. Check out the leather and fabric on our sofas and you’ll find that we have one of the biggest collections.
The months of May and June often reflect a significant activity on chair and recliner purchase but you don’t have to wait for those months to update the look in your living room.
Spring Furniture: The Dining Room
While the holiday seasons (from October to early December) spur the latest dining room furniture promos and ads, keep in mind that spring is often the time when inventories are built. Here, furniture shops evaluate what stocks they have left and what need to be replenished.
This is the perfect time to buy arm chairs, china cabinets and servers. You may also want to look at some kitchen furniture in order to update the look of your home during this season.
Spring Furniture: The Bedroom
This may be one of the last rooms that homeowners consider to update during spring but know that this is also an area that you should give priority to.
Why?
It may be generally unseen but this room is where you rest and rejuvenate each night. See if the beddings still give you your much needed comfort. Is the mattress still able to support your spine or do you feel back pain when you wake up in the morning?
The coils of a mattress come in various thicknesses. The more steel coils there are, the higher the quality of your mattress. Check out which mattress is most suitable to alleviate back pains in the morning.
Mattress box spring or foundation also adds a different level of support. Plain wooden frames could make mattresses feel harder so make sure you purchase the ones that do not show any cracks. Check also that the wooden frame is straight.
Spring Furniture: The Home Office
With the growth of home businesses and internet jobs, it is now common for people to stay at home and do their income-generating transactions there. Since they spend most of their time online, these homeowners also tend to shop on the Internet.
So why not do your home office shopping there as well?
Browse through our functional yet beautiful home office desks. There are also collections that feature desk and chair packages. See which ones would suit your spring theme the most.
If you’ve gone rustic for this season, then check out the wood home office furniture collections on this site.
Wood Furniture Shopping for Spring
Know what you prefer when shopping for wood furniture. Hardwoods are those that come from deciduous trees while softwoods come from coniferous trees. Find the pieces that are most scratch resistant so that they will be able to endure through all the other seasons. You can test this by drawing a thin line using just your fingernail. A visible dent means the furniture won’t stand up to too much use.
Check also the joint construction of your wood furniture. This is the chief determinant when it comes to quality furniture. If held by nails or staples, then consider it to be shoddily constructed. Glued parts are also a sign of weak construction.
Look for the mortise and tenon or the dovetail when looking for the sturdiest joints.
‘See any knots and cracks? Then say no to those furniture pieces.
You see, spring furniture shopping can be fun especially when you follow these hot guidelines.

If you ever thought of townhouses as mere glorified apartments, well, think again. They are no longer just houses that were put right next to each other. As it turned out, many are wrong about their notion of townhouses. They are not apartments, neither are they houses or condos.
Not all townhouses are condominiums and vice versa. Condos can be townhouse style, apartment style, even a small house style. The townhouse is not automatically a condo, though.
The Townhouse Difference
The crucial difference between a townhouse and a condominium is the patch of land where the former is situated at. Condo owners only have the space inside the building to own, nothing more.
The townhouse can be boring if you allow it to become just what it is – an unflattering piece of property. Just like any home, even when you do own a mansion, it is up to your artistic side to prove that there is so much more to your property than just a piece of land.
Know that your townhouse’s eventual style is a reflection of your taste. If you like modern, sleek, clean, with spare aesthetic, then add that to your townhouse. Putting texture in any home can also add some drama.

Hooker Furniture Living Room Windward Dart Honey Loveseat 1125-52014 is perfect in a cozy townhouse setup.
The Townhouse Living Areas
Are you an avid fan of travelling? Then go ahead and display all of your collection, from your numerous travels, inside your living room. Find a glass cabinet that will hold all those that you collect dearly.
Putting artwork right inside your townhouse living room will add a fresh contrast to the plain box look that townhouses evoke. Add continuity to the limited space by installing mirrors. Just make sure that you find the ones that suit your chosen theme.
Consider all the factors that will make your house a home. Most of the time, it is simply repeating a certain shade from the stuff that you love. You can use the shade of pink from your favorite Teddy Bear and have it don the plain walls. Do this and see the place transform!
If pastels and everything sweet is not your cup of tea because you are a formal transitionalist, then find out how you can coordinate modern flair with the rest of the textures and patterns inside your home. Lay out the pillows but be sure to plan everything so that what you would see is a collection of pillows that suit the room.
Do you have exposed timber or metal beams in your home? Then use them to your advantage. These were placed there to act as a support structure, however, they can also be used for aesthetic purposes.
Have a lovely sofa that can serve as the star of your living room.
A second seating unit can be used in your lounge. This is a spot that normally has a fireplace where friends and family could gather. Use subdued colors if there is a fireplace in the room. Bright colors may take the spotlight from the fireplace since this can also be the focal piece in a townhouse living room.
A townhouse dining area is often just a nook. Use a hanging candelabra to illuminate the spot and be sure to tie the rest of the elements with the design of your lighting fixture.
The kitchen area can be given a homey aesthetic by having a lacquered cabinetry and a simple backsplash. Storage is a necessary part of every townhouse. Add more storage shelves and cabinets where you can put all of your pots, pans, and cooking utensils.
Storage is just as important inside the townhouse bathroom. Have an interesting vanity inside this room if there is extra space.
The home office is also often a nook. This is usually just a corner inside the bedroom, an area where books and office stuff are stored. A lovely desk and chair should complete the townhouse home office that you have set up.
