Orient Express Furniture Bedroom Trellis Double Dresser 6047.SW

Whether this is your first or last year in college, you should not stop thinking of ways to beautify your dorm room. After all, this is going to be your home for quite some time. And just like any home, the style must also change now and then. Add to this that you’re decorating a small space so you have more aspects to consider.

It’s true. There are specific challenges in designing small dorm rooms. You have to think about the space being a place for sleep, study, entertainment and relaxation. And don’t forget your roommate who might or might not share your taste in design.

So here are some tips on how to make your dorm room redesigning more fun –

Personalize It

Do not be afraid to rearrange especially when the layout became different over the summer. Try something different. Rearrange by putting two desks or by moving your drawer to a different spot. You can also put your bed by the window (if you still have not tried this).

You could also cover one wall with removable wallpaper and turn this into an accent wall. Alternatively, a good way to add brightness and a sense of space in your dorm room is to hang mirrors. If you’re not allowed to drill holes in those walls, then just go for the peel-and-stick type of mirror installers.

If there are also some undesirable pieces in that small space, then what are you still waiting for? ‘Time to let them go; they’ll only add to your stress.

Use Only Dual to Multi-Functional Furniture

Since you have already probably recognized that small spaces can be quite challenging to design. Your first concern is to make room for all the things that you need. A good way to resolve this is to find multiple ways that you can use a single furniture.

That small table, for instance, can be a great space to entertain your visitors but an ottoman can also be a table, a storage space, and a seating unit. This makes it a wonderful furniture option for a small space such as a dorm room.

Even having the top of your drawer turned to a vanity can help you save a lot of space.

Add a Letterboard

Who says whiteboards and corkboards are the only way to leave notes to your roommate? Say goodbye to these traditional methods and use letterboards instead. Hang yours on the wall so that it won’t take up much space.

Ward Off Unwanted Odors

A good way to deal with unwanted odors is to use essential oil diffusers. Essential oil particles are produced from the distilled or extracted plant parts such as leavers, flowers, roots, bark ,peels, and resin. The concentrated oils contain the most potent healing compounds of certain plants.

A drop of these essential oils can provide a lot of health benefits including balanced hormones, a healthy immune system, and a working digestive system, to name a few. Ginger essential oil is a good example of an essential oil that can ease indigestion, ulcers, and constipation.

Clip ‘Em Photos

You can also hang frames on your dorm wall but that can be taxing to do. For a different take on photo presentation, why not try to set up a photo clip panel instead? This way, you can just directly attach your photos the moment that you’re ready to display them.

Display Succulents

Include more greenery in your home. Try succulents instead of the usual leafy options.

Succulents and cacti are low maintenance plants that can help you breathe better as they also release oxygen just like their leafy counterparts. They are also capable of lifting your mood by up to 15%.

Succulents also have the power to heal wounds because they are antiseptic.

6 Dorm Design Hacks to Dazzle

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

Double the fun with the Thomasville Bedroom Kristiania Daybed (Twin) 84915-473.

You may have been assigned to a tiny dorm but there are still a lot of ways that you can design this cramped space into a stylish zone. You don’t even have to wrack your brain in updating the look of your dorm space. Here are some chic updates that will make your dorm stand out –

Furniture Rearrangement

Alright, this is no complex design hack, in fact, it is so simple that anyone can do it. Sometimes, just moving your dorm bed from one side of the room to the other makes a world of difference.

To rearrange, you must first assess the layout and then make a plan of the furniture movements that you want to make. You can put a dresser in a closet or have two desks placed back-to-back instead of two separate areas in a small room.

You might also want to change the bed to a daybed so that you can welcome your visitors during the morning and have ample seating for all of them. Just throw some decorative pillows on this daybed during the morning to turn it into a cozy couch.

Coordinate

How else can you avoid clashing but by coordinating? But what if your favorite color is purple but your roommate detests it? There are ways that you can meet halfway instead of getting stuck to a color palette that makes you cringe.

Have a sit down with your roommate and decide on what colors you can agree on. Matching your color palettes doesn’t mean that you both have to like blue gray like exactly. You just have to find colors that are complementing rather than to clash, say, a dorm room with a navy and coral palettes.

Mobility + Functionality

When you have decided to buy dorm furniture to redecorate, the smartest thing to do is to look for multifunctional pieces. An example is a futon that doubles as bed and a sofa. There are also a lot of storage ottomans that are stylish seats which also double as storage bins.

What’s a Dorm Room without Decals?

This is a dorm room so you are not allowed to decorate with anything permanent. With this, your choices might appear to be limited but a creative mind would just think of a different way of expressing flair.

Add instant charm to your dorm room by peeling off the wallpaper and using decals on a repainted surface. If you want to have the feel and look of a wallpaper, then just create a pattern for smaller decals and you’ll have a wallpaper-like texture.

And Don’t Forget to Customize

You should also integrate your personality into your dorm design. Add a colorful artwork to the wall or have some photos of you framed so that you can arrange a gallery wall of your latest travels.

Another way to customize the room is to bring it back to life with a bold color. How about painting one wall with an accent color? Do you like lime green? Then go ahead and add personality and vibrancy by creating a statement with a lime green accent wall. If you still have to muster the courage to use bold colors, then add it, not as a dominant color but, as an accent color on some furnishings.

Warming Up the Cold Floor

A small space does not have to be unwelcoming and cramped. You can also customize your part of the dorm room by adding an area rug. You can also combine several rugs that will fit into a bigger area.

The college dorm rug does not have a standard size that fits all. You need to do measurements in order to get the correct size, although, the most popular size is 4 feet by 6 feet.

Everything about the 1586-90866A-GLD5 Balthazar King Upholstered Bed and the elements inside this room spells individuality.

Have you ever decorated your dorm room on your own? Then you would know that the design would make or break your reputation, right? What would you do for a lesson on designing a dorm room that will be the envy of your classmates and friends?

Okay, let’s begin with the smart solutions for your dorm storage. A storage unit will make your life a lot easier. You might be confused why you’re starting your dorm room remodeling project with a storage solution. Remember that no matter how lovely the colors or accessories, clutter would make everything look ugly. So go ahead, keep away all the stuff that you don’t use often before you begin your project, plus, most dormitories allow only the bare necessities so you have to learn how to keep clutter away.

Designing your dorm room does not have to depend entirely on function, too. There are many ways to liven up this area. Here are some things that will make your dorm room stand out –

Cool Rug

That cheerful rug will instantly add color to a typically functional dorm room. Highlight that dull tile flooring or a shabby carpet with an eye-catching rug. The print should be modern or contemporary, preferably with florals and geometric shapes. The color should be neutral so that you can use it for four or more years.

Cool Fan

There is no way to have full control of the air conditioning in your dorm room. You can rely on micro-sized fans, though, to keep you cool during those hot nights.

Smart Storage Solution

Now on to that storage solution again; stow your winter clothes, beauty products and office supplies to the storage box that will fit your dorm room (or even under your bed). Corral your stuff then collapse them flat with a vacuum.

There are also furniture pieces that could double as a storage unit. For instance, an ottoman could also be a storage unit for books and documents, even photo albums.

Another organizer that you should look into is the jewelry organizer. This is a great piece to own if you don’t want your accessories to go missing. A jewelry stand will be able to hold earrings, necklaces, headbands and bracelets. This jewelry organizer could also be a part of your dresser or desk, all able to fit your tiny space .

Still on storage units, did you know that your laundry tote does not have to be dull? Find one that you can easily stash underneath the bed or one that you could sport around with (preferably one that has as colorful strap).

Another way to become more at home with your dorm room is to install over-the-door hooks. This means you have to learn to take advantage of every inch in your dorm space. Every hook can hold up to five pounds so use it to hang hats, scarves, belts and bags.

Have you also heard of those adjustable closet rods? This is especially useful if you share the dorm room with a roommate or two.  Hang dresses and pants without worrying about your bunkmate.

A Colorful Desk Chair

You can bring in the neon colors into your dorm room. Have a neon green swivel chair or any other bold-colored chair into your corner. Count on this furniture piece to survive your entire college career, even your frequent all-nighters. Choose from a wide array of colors in the market.

‘Find a chair in your favorite color? Go ahead and buy it!

Gorgeous Lighting

It’s time to fight off the common fluorescent lighting. Use a string of colored bulbs, even paper lanterns in different colors. These lights give off a lovely, soft glow which is quite relaxing. Try fairy lights in the shape of stars, flowers or birds.
