Hooker Furniture Bedroom Skyline Nightstand

Hooker Furniture Bedroom Skyline Nightstand

If the bedroom is supposed to be your sanctuary, then why does it have to come last when it comes to your design considerations? You would be surprised that just a few tweaks could actually make this room more relaxing.

It is crucial to know what elements you need to bring in so that you increase the restful aura in the bedroom. Apart from the bed which is going to be your focal point, you have to know what will make this anchor a more memorable sight to behold.

The Bedside Table: The Necessary Sidekick

First, the bedside table – you must begin with the right height that would serve as a buddy for your bed. This height should be at the same level or height as the top of your mattress. This should offer an even visual line across your bed. This will make it easier to reach for that page-turner at night.

The bottom of the lampshade should be at your shoulder height when you’re lying down so that it will be able to illuminate the book that you’re reading.

There are some people who prefer their bedside tables to be a tad higher. Find a table that’s higher than the mattress when you’re in bed. You can either have the usual table lamps on the nightstands or have some hanging lamps illuminate from above. Just make sure that they don’t create shadows as you do your reading.

Should the traditional bedside table be too large for your bedroom, then you can make use of pedestals or plant stands to fill in that awkward nook.

Keep ‘Em Out of Sight

If you are having trouble finding stuff in the bedroom then why don’t you utilize that nook right next to the bed? Apart from the bedside table, you can also have some open shelves as storage units in that room.

Find a slim shelf if you don’t have the luxury of space and a bigger one if you have ample square footage to boost.

Let It Bloom

Whether you are planning to use a bunch of flowers or just a single-stemmed rose in a slim glass vase, it really doesn’t matter. What truly matters is that you have added a lovely organic touch to this room for rest not to mention an interesting burst of color in a usually dim space.

If flowers aren’t artistic enough for you, then use a pot of succulent or a small work of art.

Play with Shapes, Patterns, Colors and Sizes

You have to be able to create a unique yet balanced display of accessories such as vases, perfume bottles and some trinkets. These come in different shapes and sizes so you have to group them according to their color or shape.

Work in groupings of three if you want to play safe. A stack of books is the perfect group of objects to use if a little height is needed.

It also pays to overlaps some of the items. Don’t think that a lamp partially covering an interesting painting would ruin the view. Sometimes, these seemingly imperfect placements are what would give character to your design.

As to color, make sure that you create a cohesive look using your preferred hues. Find a base color, though, that would serve as the anchor for the rest of the design. The bedding and furniture must coordinate with the rest of the décor.

Hooker Furniture Bedroom Transcend Nightstand

Hooker Furniture Bedroom Transcend Nightstand

Posh and handy nightstands are functional as well as decorative must-own pieces. It becomes easier to create a theme if you have a lovely nightstand to begin with. The first step is to use this furniture as a decorative element. It should be the perfect companion to the other functional pieces of furniture in the room. The nightstand is often used to hold lamps and bedside clocks but these aren’t the only items that can be placed on it.

How to Use the Nightstand

Begin decorating your bedroom by keeping the nightstand right beside your bed. Doing this will make it easier to access the clock, book or lamp that is placed there. Make sure also that it is snuggled against the wall in order to keep things from falling off the back of this decorative table.

Next, make sure that you always add a lamp and a clock. Place the lighting piece near the head of the bed. This position maximizes your reaching ability which is handy especially when you need some light in the middle of the night.

The alarm clock, on the other hand, is there to rouse you to wake up during the morning. Place this at the right distance so that you are only able to reach it when you sit up. This will prevent you from hitting on snooze many times before you get up.

Add a phone, too. This should be close to the lamp so that the numbers are still visible. Always place the base of the landline phone on top of your nightstand. It is also a wonderful idea to keep a cell phone charger nearby.

You can also use the nightstand to decorate your bedroom further. Personalize your room by adding some framed photos, flowers in vases, and some accent pieces on the nightstand. The merrier the photos are, the better. Have the vacation photos placed all around the lamp. Even souvenirs from your last beach expedition such as some seashells are also a great addition on your nightstand.

Now make sure that you also use the drawers of your nightstands. At night, empty your pockets into a tray right on top of your decorative nightstand. Most nightstands come with mini drawers so you can place some miscellaneous items in there.

Correct Nightstand Shopping

When you’ve decided to buy a nightstand or two, there are also some questions that you need to answer before you go out and shop. First, find out your bedroom space requirements. It would be best to keep the nightstand at a size that leaves ample room for other design elements. It shouldn’t be too big, too high, too low, too wide or too many.

When it comes to height, know that the perfect one is at the same level as the top of your mattress. This will provide an even visual across the bed.

If you love to read books before dozing off at night, then make sure to have a lighting source on your nightstand. It doesn’t have to be a posh lamp, it can be as simple as a reading light.

If you are shopping for a smaller room, then the nightstand should be small enough to fit right next to your bed. A narrow table takes up but little room yet if it has some shelves, then it even adds extra storage to other bedroom items.

Minimalists prefer to have the platform right around their bed serve as a place to serve a drink, place novels, or place electronic gadgets.

Whether or not the nightstand matches the bed is up to you. More than matching pieces, you should be more worried about balance. Two nightstands could have different sizes and colors but they can still offer a collected look if you know how to visually link one to the other.

Stanley Furniture Bedroom Upholstered Bed 007-83-52 is just right for that welcoming atmosphere which you are trying to create in your guest room.

A guest room in your home is a crucial part of hospitality. This also takes on a vital role when it comes to the level of comfort that your relatives or friends feel when they visit your home.

With the right design suggestions, you can easily set up a guest room that can rival five star hotel rooms.

First, you need to come up with a theme. This particular theme or look will be your basis for all the other interior design aspects that you will bring into the guest room. As soon as you have an overall idea on how the room would look, then you can go ahead and begin purchasing furniture and decorative pieces.

The guest room must have a comfortable bed, one with a cozy mattress. You wouldn’t want your guest to feel that the mattress is loose or shaped irregularly. They would just end up tossing and turning throughout the night, leaving you with disgruntled guests in the morning. Comfortable, soft pillows are also a must. If you want to add a splash of colors to liven up a neutral theme, then find throws that will help you achieve this.

Okay, So It’s All About the Bed

The best possible sleep can be achieved with the right kind of bed, right? So let the bed be the first furniture piece that you will buy. Place this first inside the guest room. This will also serve as the focal point for this space as it also sets the tone for the rest of your design aspects.

It is up to you whether you choose timeless and traditional or if you want to take on a more modern approach. With both the mattress and bed selected, you can finally shop for the bedding.

Remember those fancy hotels? Even the classiest suites feature plain, white sheets and a super plush comforter. A sophisticated duvet completes the look as lots of pillows and decorative throws are placed on the bed.

Make Room for Clothing Storage

It is a common practice to use guest room closets as winter coat storage units. Well, it’s time to clear out this space to make room for your incoming guests. Provide plenty of closet and drawer space for all of your guests to use. Of course, no one would want to scramble through a suitcase during a prolonged stay so it is best to empty those dressers for them.

The best dressers may also be used as TV stands. See if you can find matching night stands for those dressers. If not, then find one that will balance the look in the right way.

Know Your Guests’ Needs

Always think about the amenities that hotels often offer. These are the very things that you need to place inside the guest room. Place an alarm clock right on the nightstand, those needful toiletries in a basket inside the guest bathroom, and do not forget that stack of clean towels.

Wi-Fi is now a necessity more than luxury so do not forget to provide this amenity in your guest room. Do not forget to give the password, though. Leave the written password on the dresser or the nightstand so that your guests can hook up their tablets, phones and other devices to your Wi-Fi connection.

If you have room to spare, then a desk or a lounge chair would be great additional guest room pieces. A vanity desk would surely be appreciated by lady guests.
