The Uttermost Accessories Tropea Rounds Wood Mirror S/2 12847 comes with rust-colored frames that will cap your urban decay theme.
Have you noticed how some of the most beautiful towns and cities in the past have now turned into visual wastelands? This is an ongoing phenomenon that is seen throughout the world in varying degrees. In a sociological term, this is referred to as urban decay.
Positivism in Urban Decay?
Urban decay happens when a previously functional town or city has slowly fallen apart. This could be brought about by deindustrialization, the bankruptcy of businesses in that area, or economic breakdown. These have eventually regressed into a disease or criminal-infested area.
So how can you take this term and make into something non-desolate?
Urban decay has been linked to regions such as North America, Eastern Europe, and some parts of the British Isles, especially the areas that were ravaged by diseases, natural disasters and the World Wars. Over the years, though, it seems that almost every nation has faced urban decay due to social unrest. This does not mean, though, that you have to be derelict in order to show urban decay in your design.
Urban decay has long transitioned into fashion and make-up. Just take a look at the latest urban junkie bags, clothing, shoes, dark eye colors, foundation, primer, eyeliners and lip colors and you’d know just how urban decay has moved to cosmetics and anything that’s chic.
Now it’s time to use the urban decay look in interior design.

Urban Decay in Your Home
If there is anything positive about urban decay, it is also the starting ground for social and economic development. In the world of interior design, this is shown as any aesthetic that shows oxidized surface, galvanized steel or anything that’s rust-colored.
What is particularly charming about rust when it comes to interior design is that it shows a bit of art and life. Just take a careful look at a rusty, metallic surface and you will know that it is reacting to an ever-changing environment.
Isn’t it true that when you find a rusty, metallic piece that it almost always is misused or abandoned? Yet this same piece can also mean change, progress and development depending on the artist’s perspective. The rusty surface can be considered a living surface of sorts because it has texture and it can also symbolized utilitarianism.
Rusty surfaces, when seen upon sculptures, can also alter people’s concept of proportion and space. This is all about centralizing space in various ways. This is also about how people move in relation to the available space.
You can use urban decay in your home by creating complex ensembles of metal and wood. This pair can show the perfect example of beauty despite urban decay.
A rust-colored frame for a mirror can make the viewer think of pixelated silhouettes. Such mirrors can also reflect virtual or natural environments especially the woodsy outdoors.
You can also create urban decay in your home by transforming an iron panel into a rusty minimalist artwork. This piece of metal could appear isolated and it could also be shaped into a form that will celebrate its functional nature. Even the simplest rust-colored sculpture or any artwork that is strategically placed in a corner could make a world of difference in your home.
The use of anything rusty does not end with metallic furniture or sculptures. You can also pay homage to rusty hues by creating watercolor paintings which mimic oxidation or rust. You can also use dark, moody pieces for all the rooms in your home. Urban decay, after all, is all about rusty metals, dark, unused buildings, and even any property that is in a state of disrepair.
