Razzle dazzle them all with this Maitland-Smith Outdoor:Patio Planter.
The Merriam and Webster dictionary defines a patio as a courtyard “an inner court open to the sky; a recreation area that adjoins a dwelling, is often paved, and is adapted especially to outdoor dining.
The patio is often surrounded by other structures. It has plants for décor and has a pavement. The word has a Spanish origin and is believed to have come from the word patu or pati which means pasture, technically, this is that land at the back of any house.
The patio, initially, was used to keep the owner’s animals safe during the night. But with modern living came changes, which meant the patio has become, more than this. It is now being used as a living room of sorts that’s located outdoors. Traditional Mediterranean settings use the patio as a garden courtyard.
Modern American and English patios are paved areas very near the house. This is often used for dining, sitting, and socializing. These could have a building or two on each of its sides but is no longer an internal courtyard as was traditionally done in Spain.
Prepping for Barbecues and Frolicking
It’s spring. This is the perfect season to prepare for your summer fun activities. Consider adding a space where you can host your summer parties. The patio can also be added just for the simple reason of lounging outdoors.
There are many benefits that come with patio addition. Primarily, you can increase your home’s value just by adding this extra space. You will get more should the time come that you would sell your property. A lot of homebuyers love having entertainment areas in their homes so adding the patio will definitely boost your marketing appeal.
Another reason to add a patio is to extend your home’s living area. This is that extra space that’s meant for reading or simple conversations.
The patio can also provide a summertime spot for entertainment, parties, barbecues and a lot more. You can be the gracious host to a string of summer outdoor activities.
And, don’t worry, the patio is a low-maintenance space when it comes to maintenance, cleaning, and repairs. The materials that you used there should be able to withstand the harshest weathers so cleanup should be minimal.
Patios also offer the perfect spot to get your suntan or to keep cool when you’re done sunbathing. The patio furniture is protected from sun damage, too, so you can spend a great many hours enjoying the outdoors weather while sitting idly.
Patio Seating
Since the weather is warmer, it’s practically patio season. And what’s an outdoor relaxation area without the perfect seating?
You can choose from an outdoor sofa, an ensemble of different-styled chairs, chair swing or a fusion of these seats.
Patio Table
A lot of people do not have a space dedicated to outdoor dining so just imagine the activities that you can finally do once you have your own patio.
Enjoy your first cup of coffee in the morning as you prop your legs up and place your morning beverage on an outdoor table. How about those evenings when you just want to unwind? Go ahead and enjoy a glass of wine with friends.
Patio Lighting
Of course, it would be impossible to enjoy any of these activities if you have not set up the correct kind of patio lighting. So go ahead and install those string lights. Lanterns are also a welcome addition to this space.
If you’re feeling up for it, you can also have wall sconces installed. Make sure to work the theme that you have set for your whole home.
Patio Rug
Don’t forget the area rugs to separate spaces and, of course, to beautify.

The American Leather Living Room Aiden Chair blends the classic look of Mid-century style with the scenic outdoors.
Summer’s long gone and with the colder seasons taking center stage, it is time to prepare your patio now for the long hibernation ahead. This is also so that when spring comes, you’d be ready to enjoy the outdoors once again. So how do you keep patio furniture safely tucked this fall and winter?
Rust-free Metals
It is, of course, always best to read the manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to taking good care of your outdoors furniture. Most of the aluminum pieces that are out in the market these days have been powder coated. This is so the pieces are kept free from rust.
Experts also suggest that you wash aluminum furniture pieces then apply a single coat of automotive wax. This is a simple and affordable maintenance tip that you can do annually. Touch up if you see any scratches. Use car paint with the right color.
As for wrought-iron pieces, know that you will encounter rust somewhere down the road. You can remove rust accumulation using a wire brush. After this, coat the furniture with an exterior paint that was specifically designed for wrought-iron pieces.
Let dry then cover with tarp that will keep the furniture intact until spring.
Galvanized metal is known to be more durable than regular metal. While this is so, it is not exempted from the eventual rigors of the cold climate. It is always best to keep your metal furniture in a spot where they won’t be exposed to the elements during fall and winter.
All these maintenance steps are necessary to keep the metal furniture from developing rust and eventually weakening.
Stain-free Fabrics
If there are a few fabric pieces in your patio, then you should work extra hard in keeping those mildew, mold, and stain-free throughout the cold seasons. The easiest way to avoid black spots is to shake them off or to vacuum them.
Detergent and bleach mixtures are best for tough stains. A cup of bleach can be used for every gallon of water. You can then add a little detergent. Use these on non-cotton or printed fabrics. For these, just use a simple solution of water and soap.
Clean Cushions
Ain’t it just wonderful to lay down in a cushioned seat during summer? You would want to go back to that lovely feeling once the holidays are over. There are now many outdoor furniture pieces that come with removable cushions.
When not in use, you can store these cushions inside a storage box. Be sure to use the heavy-duty type or you would be left with fabrics that need to be thawed later on.
Additionally, you should store the cushions so they are kept free from mold and mildew. Cover them with plastic or tarp so that dust won’t accumulate while they are awaiting their reuse.
Elegant Natural Materials
One of the most durable types of woods that are often used in patios is teak. It offers an elegant look that just keeps getting better with time. Use specialty oil once each year. For painted woods, be sure to keep them shielded from the sun’s rays. If they remain exposed, you will soon see that they’d lose their color plus the paint would begin to fade as well.
For an all-year-round furniture, be sure to use synthetic wicker or rattans. Paint the areas that are already flaking.
As for wood patio furniture, make sure that they are sealed for the colder seasons. Use a protective sealant to keep your wood furniture from being damaged by moisture. Snow brings with it a lot of moisture which would eventually cause wood cracks. A sealed furniture will not be soaked in moisture.
Do this same thing with raw wood.

Patios and walkways are wonderful assets that your backyard could offer. They bring wonderful benefits to you and your home. There are many ways that you could use your patio. First, it can be an entertainment area, a party zone, or simply an oasis right on your backyard.
A Relaxing Entertainment Spot
There is nothing more comfy than resting in the backyard during a warm summer night while sipping a cool drink. The kids are out playing in the lawn while you enjoy their peals of laughter.
A patio can greatly enhance this experience. Complete the scenario by adding the most comfortable patio furniture set. This should become an oasis, one that you could unwind in.
The Party Zone
You will definitely feel wonderful as you fire up the grill and have a barbecue party going. Add all the grilling essentials that you know and the fun and convenience would definitely be amped up.
Add Value
Adding value to your property is as easy as installing a walkway or a patio. You get to enjoy the benefits that patios offer for as long as you live in the property. These benefits extend all the way to that time when you are ready to give up your house and move to a different home.
Potential buyers will surely be awed as they see the beautiful aesthetics of your outdoor haven. Your home will be doubly desirable with the patio sitting where bare concrete would have been.
Assuring Safety
The safety of your home also goes up if you install a walkway and a patio. Mulch and rocks are often used as a path all around houses but these can cause accidents in both adults and children. Peace of mind can be achieved once you make the conscious decision to install a walkway and a lovely patio that goes with it.
Dress Up the Patio
Sure, the patio can be a haven but it isn’t so until you find the right furniture pieces to set it up. Think of banquet seating inside a kitchen. Now imagine this set up on your patio. Invest in a bench, some chairs and a dining table. Be sure to integrate the look of these pieces with the rest of the house.
Match the shapes of the table and the patio. A round table will look great on a cute, round patio. Add a tall fence to have a more private and cozy feel.
You can also eliminate useless spaces behind furnishing or in corners. You can afford ample space on the patio for a small table and a pair of chairs. This is a great setup for those date nights.
Patio with Bright Colors
Small patios are advantageous since they are better able to show off bright colors than large patios. These playful colors don’t look as overwhelming on a cute patio which means you can go ahead and use bright blues and greens. Ottomans can also match the patio décor while providing an extra seat for a person or two.
Nature can also offer lush colors such as green potted plants and colorful flowers.
Set Up Open Sight Lines
Choose seating that comes with open back. This should keep the sight lines flowing and it should visually expand the patio. Choose to keep the color palette basic, even unassuming. Use pastels such as green or blue on a bench and its partner, the coffee table. Distress the furniture for more laidback look.
You can also use narrower pieces such as a bench paired with a long, narrow table. Have these on the patio and you get a great choice for those dine-out nights.
