Double-duty furniture: Flexsteel Living Room Fabric And Kashmira Storage Ottoman

If you’re a parent who’s thinking of setting up a room for your little one, then you might be at a point when you no longer know how to have him (or her) onboard on the project. After all, a kid could default to his favorite cartoon character or would wish for a unicorn-filled bedroom. If none of these designs would make sense with your overall theme, then it’s time to learn a few techniques.

Consider Your Kid’s Happiness

When it comes to a kid’s room, remember that you need to consider his freedom, his sense of creativity, his boundless energy, and of course, his happiness. Think of his room as his personal sanctuary, a playground where no one would judge him.

While kids’ safety matters, this does not go to say that they will see the CCTV cameras and whatnot. Learn to install security features in the room that would not hamper with the fun that is also supposed to happen there.

Make Room for Adjustments

Kids are known for their fickle-mindedness as they alter their tastes from one cartoon character to a sports team, and on. If you want a room that will grow with your kid along with his design preferences, then you might want to invest in the more classic furniture designs.

So, rather than buying a kid-sized drawer, pick one that can store more clothing in the future. If your space allows it, then invest in a bigger bed from the outset unless, of course, when you’re setting up a nursery in which case, you have to pick furnishings that are infant-appropriate.

Buy Double-duty Furniture

A multifunctional furniture is the most ideal piece to put in your kid’s room. This is especially when you’re looking to change a nursery to a bigger child. And when it is finally time to replace the crib with a bed, then make sure that you get the one that has storage underneath. This simple storage solution should help keep your kid’s room tidy.

While parents are cautioned against being ‘boxed in’ on some gender-assigned colors, pink is just so deliciously lovely that it’s difficult to not use on a girl’s bedroom floor.

Use Fun Colors

While you are encouraged to set up a room that your kid could grow into, you might also want to consider that you’re decorating the room for a kid. And a kid will always be a kid so if you are left to pick the colors, then add the fun hues.

Neutrals can be used but be sure to offset the boring look with bold accents. And if the rest of the room is bold-colored, then pick tamed furnishings.

Choose Kiddie Themes

There are many kiddie themes to choose from online. Take the time to scour these options with your little one. Make him point to the ones that he likes and take note of those. Neutral themes include zoo trip, Toy Story, basic pastels, Old Western, farm animals, etc.

For boys’ bedroom themes, you can choose from Captain America (and any other superhero), shark theme, Star Wars, etc. As for girls, the options could include Disney princesses, rainbows, the traditional pink, and playland.

Ask Your Kid for Suggestions

Learn to think outside of the box. To do this, ask your kid for suggestions. You will be surprised at the plethora of ideas that could flow out of his young mind.

If you have, say, a five-year-old who is adamant in picking the paint color for the walls of his room, then don’t hamper that creativity. Give him some control but learn to coax if the colors start to clash. You have to learn to walk the line where you’re guiding the choices that your little one makes while he still has the leeway to suggest what he truly desires.

For starters, you can narrow his paint color options to just five so he can point to the one that makes sense to him the most. You could also do the same thing with the color of the furnishings. Having the kid onboard in this whole project will increase his self-esteem and even his love and respect for you.

So, here’s the thing, you have a space problem and every home has an unused nook to spare – got the solution?

If you don’t have ample room for dining table and chairs, that tiny space right where the walls meet could serve as a cute breakfast nook. This is especially if you don’t mind dining cozily. Use a bench if you want to fit in more people to that area. Chairs take up more area than one long bench so consider ditching them when you want to use the tiny corner.

Reading Nook

The reading nook need not look intentional. You can incorporate a small library just by having a tiny desk paired with a stylish chair and have them placed in a corner. Have a small pile of books at that desk, and that’s it. Your home library doesn’t have to comprise of a huge bookshelf. Just grab one book, read, finish reading, then put it right back to the pile.

Office Nook

A small space is perfect for working niches. Most people just have their laptops these days so these won’t even require more than 30 inches of space. A little closet can be easily transformed into your dream office nook.

Laundry Nook

How much space do you think you need to move freely in a laundry space? Just 30 inches by 30 inches! Just have the stackable type of washer and dryer and you should be able to transform the tiny nook into a laundry area. Handle the spills by having it diverted towards the bathroom.

 Play Pen

As a kid, didn’t you just love having your tiny play spot? Having kids of your own now, that nook could be a nice spot to hide kids’ mess. The world of possibilities just seems endless with that tiny nook. You can now store all the kids’ toys there, their storybooks, etc.

Pet’s Nook

Your pet would surely love his own nook, too. This could serve as a retreat spot where his mess could be contained. Set up your pet’s tiny bed in that corner and you just might get the extra blessing of having an unscratched sofa.

An Entertainment Corner

If you want an entertainment spot but do not want the TV to be the focal point in the room, then just set up that tiny nook to become the TV’s home. That dedicated nook will be used for TV viewing only while you can have the rest of your home for socializing.

Resting Nook

Who says you can’t sleep in that tiny corner? Set up a sofa bed and this is the perfect spot for all your guest sleepovers. You would be surprised at the stylishness that sofa beds can offer. You can also have two sofa beds pushed together to create an instant double bed. This part of your home could also be utilized as a reading corner during most days of the year. Just prop the sofa bed and what a relaxing reading time you’d have. The linens could be hidden neatly inside a trunk during the day.

Kid’s Bedroom

Believe it or not, you can actually fit a loft bed into a nook, one that preferably has a drawer so that bed linens can be concealed. Put a little color and a small partition and your kid will surely love you for ‘em!

If you have extra square footage in your home and you are the parent of a lovely child, then what’s keeping you from turning that extra space into your little one’s playroom?  This is a place where you will be able to store his toys, even his clothes if the space permits. A lot of kids would like to have a space that they could call their own. This place has to be safe, though especially when your child is only a toddler.

There are various ways to furnish and design your child’s playroom. Keep in mind that your child does not need anything fancy just to have fun. Before you set out to decorate your kid’s room, consider some elements that will make your project a success.

First, Some Safety Tips

First things first when you have to decorate a room. Safety always comes first no matter how old your child is. Even young adults and teens need to take the necessary precautions when considering a fun playroom.

Safety doubles, though, if you are setting up a playroom for toddlers and younger children. You’ll have to be more careful of outlet placement, corded blinds, the use of lead paint, and setting up cabinet doors. Plan for all these well before you begin buying the materials that you would use for the playroom project.

Still for younger children, think of using foamed bins or storage boxes. The heavy types can cause head or body injuries should the kid pull them off the shelves.

Buy the heavy type of furniture, the kinds that won’t even budge even if an adult would get pull onto it. Bookcases or cabinets manufactured with light materials can topple over and injure kids or even adults.

Consider installing internet access if a teenager is going to be the one to use the room. A TV access would also be a good addition but be sure that you set up the parental controls for both.

Carbon monoxide detector should also be installed. Ask an expert about it soon.

Tweeners can also find a haven in their new playroom. Create a safe environment where they have control and space yet with you still protecting them.

Choose an Appropriate Theme

Picking the theme or color palette for the playroom can be fun. Allow the kid to choose according to his taste. Large patterns and bright colors are great for children. A schoolhouse theme can add interest to the new playroom.

Playroom Furniture

Begin with the basics when it comes to this. Every playroom in the world needs enough storage, a table and a good number of chairs. Be sure to buy the durable type of furniture so you can use them for a long time.

Be able to provide a study table for teenagers, plus some board games and relevant books. There is a lot more to life than enjoying electronic games and you can let them know that by stuffing the room with good books and wholesome games.

You may also set up a section for artwork. Have an easel stand at the corner or use the walls to hang paintings.

For the more serious teens or children, there is always a way to make the space a more quiet one. You don’t have to separate the kid from the rest of the family, though. Design the playroom in such a way that he has his own space but it is a room where everyone in the family is still welcome.

The playroom should contain most of your child’s ideas but it is also a project that you can both work on. See how fun it can be.
