Creating Drama in a Room

Tuesday, June 12th, 2018

Here, the dramatic piece is the bed itself. The Bedford Pineapple Post King Bed from the American Cherry collection of Fine Furniture Design is more than noteworthy.

Homes’ interiors are often quite interesting when something different has been set up there. Anyone would be immediately intrigued the moment that enigma or mystery is created. Setting up a dramatic décor can be the surprising twist in every home’s interior design. You could think about adding some elements that would give the space a sense of surprise or drama.

It can be difficult to create mystery, a surprise element and drama all in the same space. But just the right elements might be able to provide these characteristics if you try hard enough. Creating drama need not be complex. Even a gold curtain could be the right element of surprise that anyone can add to a room. This curtain can also be functional as it can be used to divide different spaces.

Here are other ways that you can add drama to your home –

The Amazing Fireplace

We all know the uses of the fireplace. But it’s not just there to keep a room warm.

The fireplace can also be dressed up to provide the needed statement in a room. To do this, you need to dress up the mantel. There are many ideas on how to do this. You can –

  • Put framed photographs of your family
  • Add a vase or two containing fresh flowers or just some ceramic vases that are colorful enough to pop out from the background.
  • Paint the whole fireplace white. Who says dramatic features need to be dark all the time?
  • Install a lovely mirror that reflects the window opposite it.
  • Distress it and add your collections of books on the ledge.
  • Add an interesting candelabra.

The Dark Dimension

Painting a room dark is not always tantamount to using black on ceilings, walls, and the floor. A dark room can be saturated with colors so that the background serves as the canvas for your interesting pieces. The dramatic look, especially on that spot where the ceiling and the walls meet, can be an interesting thing to look at.

There are rules to follow when you want to paint the room with a strong color such as black or gray. Remember that dark hues can make a room recede. When you do decide to paint with just the dark to medium color, then you can actually make the room appear larger- you should try this.

Creating a striking interest is making a space more compelling in such a way that people are naturally drawn towards it. The best-looking interiors are far from safe. These are the rooms where the homeowners take a risk and so they are able to create the room with the wow factor.

Be bold! Use patterns and colors. You don’t have to be garish, though. You could dilute colors to create a room that’s a little safer.

Go Big

Do not underestimate the power of scale. Go ahead and hang that huge painting or just group a number of small pictures to create a huge wall collage.

Drama in a Nutshell

There are many other ways to create a dramatic scheme. You can contrast the shadows which move into the room throughout the day. You can also study how each lighting fixture reflects differently on the textures in the room. Rough textures often have a softer shadow compared to the sharp edges.

You can also use the same color in a textured range. Limit the amount of texture, though, as this could lead to confusion. Just adding two or three should be fine.

Pick oversized plants and floor lamps. Use them in corners of your room.
