The Clean Kitchen (And How to Achieve It)

Thursday, March 15th, 2018

Every smart kitchen needs this Canadel Kitchen Island.

Do you often wonder whether your kitchen can still look as clean as when it was first constructed, designed, and then presented to you? With all the many meals that are prepared there, it is not a surprise that this area becomes a war zone of sorts. The great news is that there are ways to turn a cluttered kitchen into a sparkling clean one.

Zero Clutter on Counters

Maintaining a clean kitchen does require discipline. Of course, it won’t magically clean itself. And the first rules that the whole family needs to learn is to not leave anything on top of the kitchen counters. These items include recipes, cookbooks, even your opened or unopened mails. Make a habit of having each item placed in their proper space.

Never use the kitchen countertop or even the sinks as a storage unit.

Soak then Go

Make it a point to use your sink in helping you clean up. The sink is a helpful part of the kitchen that you can actually use to take the dirt and grime out. You will save a lot of scrubbing time if you put all the dirty dishes in the sink minutes before you wash them. Make sure that the sink is filled with a soapy, warm water so that it becomes easier to wash the pieces later.

Organize the Fridge

It’s a common sight to find expired and moldy food at the back of the fridge. Don’t let this become your constant reality. While it is tempting to leave the food for eons because you won’t think about cleaning up for a while, know that these will come back and haunt you later. And by then, you will have much, much more to clean up rather than having to clean up the fridge each day.

Clean Up the Hard-to-reach Areas

‘Sounds like an infomercial doesn’t it? But you really have to clean these areas or you will be left with grimy spots which will, again, haunt you later on. Be sure to clean the top of the cupboards, cabinets, the refrigerator, and just about any appliance and furniture that is set up in the kitchen.

Be sure to clean up the area under these items, too.

The Canadel Dining Room Buffet offers ample storage space for your kitchenware.

Always Clean the Stove

This is one of the dirtiest spots each day because this is where the action actually takes place. Don’t leave those grime marks on your stove top or they will become much tougher to deal with when you get back to them days later.

Use an all-purpose cleaner with water. Let the solution sit on the stove top for a while then wipe it all out after a few minutes. Be sure to thoroughly clean so that spoiled food won’t cause awful odors when left on your stove. Also, you are ascertained that there won’t be any burnt food smell the next time you cook.

Empty the Trash

This is very important to any kitchen because leaving the trash bins full overnight could result in the foulest smells the following day. Also, you could be welcoming tons of bacteria and rats to your home. If the trash still leaves a foul odor after you have already emptied out every kitchen trash bin, then be sure to wash the bin with soap and water. Use the hose outdoors then leave the bin overnight and up until the sun rises.

Allow the bins to dry. This should kill any microorganism that caused the awful smell. You can also use chunks of charcoal in the kitchen so that the rest of the foul odor will already be absorbed.

Clean as You Go

It is always a good idea to multitask inside the kitchen. While cooking, you can already soak the dishes in the sink. And you can also begin cleaning the pots and utensils if you’re still waiting for the meat recipe to simmer.

Dining Like Royalty: The Essentials of a Formal Dinner

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Fine Furniture Design’s Regal Collection features these dining set that’s meant for royalty.

Casual dining rooms are what’s known as functional dining rooms. These are your usual setup where you can relax, dine, laugh, and not worry so much about how to behave. If you want to dine like royalty, though, or if there is a formal function that you need to attend, then you will need to prepare for formal dining.

Formal dining rooms, simply put, are fancier dining rooms. Their furniture choices, as well as lighting, are very much different from casual dining areas. They also come with a more posh choice of accessories and other decorative elements.

The look of this room determines whether or not it can be considered a formal dining room. How space is used and how it becomes distinct from the usual dining setup will also point as to whether you are going to dine in a formal setup.

Even when pizza is going to be served in formal dining, this is a time when you should refrain from pigging out. With everyone wearing black ties and long gowns, it would be wrong to behave in such a manner.

The Fancy Location

The very purpose and location of the dinner will make a huge difference on whether it is going to be a formal occasion or just a casual tête-à-tête. A formal dining room tends to be separated from the rest of the rooms. It also comes with pocket doors or lovely French doors. It is also common to see double doors opening up to the lavish setup indoors.

A casual dining room, in contrast, often shares a space with the living room or the kitchen. It is also wide open since it does not come with any closable door.

The formal dining room’s purpose is to serve the most elegant dinners. It can also be the hub of classy social get-togethers. You will be served with meals that are ceremonially served by waiters who are also properly dressed for the evening.

Proper etiquette is also expected in a formal dining setup. All these go with the fine embellishments that you get to see everywhere.

The Fancy Ambiance

A formal dining room is more conservative. It tends to have a darker color palette because of the formality that it evokes. Since this is so, you will find that most formal dining rooms have dark wood floors. You will also find rich paneling where the lighting is kept to a bare minimum so that the ambiance becomes more intimate.

You will rarely hear loud voices from the diners. In fact, you are expected to talk in whispers and to dress up in a formal manner.

As opposed to the casual dining room where the room is flooded with light and the diners talking animatedly, in the formal setup, the diners simply need to behave.

The Fancy Furniture

The formal dining room needs formal and fancier furniture pieces. This is one of the most important things that will help you distinguish the formal setup from the casual one. A functional dining room contains a table and chairs that can be exposed to the daily rigors of informal dining.

In a formal dining room, there are only two things that could become the focal point – it’s either the long dining table or the charming chandelier that’s hung right above the center of the lovely table. You will also immediately notice the lovely formal chairs that are gathered about. More often than not, these are made of traditional woods and are possibly padded complete with refined details.

Expect to find a china cabinet, buffet or sideboard nearby. In place of these, you might find a small TV or even a laptop atop a computer desk in a casual dining room.

Adjusting to a Tiny Home

Tuesday, March 13th, 2018

The Jessica Charles Living Room Dare Storage Ottoman is a perfect dual-furniture for a tiny home.

You have probably seen many reality TV shows highlighting the joys and travails of owning a tiny house. You might even have pinned a few pictures that you think would also work for you and your family. But did you know how difficult it could be to adjust to tiny house living? It is definitely a lifestyle that does not suit everyone. So the big question is – are you cut out for it?

Tiny houses are, well, tiny. Since you will be dealing with a small space, you have to choose the stuff that you will bring in. Just imagine each day when you are able to hear the person who is currently taking a bath, or you will be able to smell every bit of food that will be cooked in the small kitchen. Now, are you really ready for that sort of experience?

Without a doubt, our nation has been enamored by the tiny houses. So if you are one of these folks who have really decided to scale down, then you have to learn a few things that can help you better adjust.

It’s a Family Thing

Remember when bad days come that you are in this as a family. Just think of it as a way to removing excess space between family members. Remember those times when the huge spaces or rooms in your home just became the home for clutter?

Now you are left with just enough space to work with so you have to make the most of it. And as a family, it becomes easier to cope with downsizing so get everyone’s cooperation. Just like many transitory phases in life, you should also inform the kids so that you are ascertained that they are also amenable to your plans. They will, after all, live with this decision, too.

As for adults, there will be huge adjustments as well such as learning how to make compost out of the toilet contents, cooking with wood, leveling, towing, and such. All these are new experiences for most people who sign up to live tiny.

Plan

A huge part of living in a tiny house is to differentiate the needs from all your previous wants. You could have four or five rooms in your past home but if you’re bound to move into a home with only a room or two, there’s bound to be major adjustments.

To avoid the shock, at least plan from the outset. Many tiny house homeowners end up having the original design of their homes altered all because they did not plan on bringing extra stuff. So the rule is to plan from the get-go.

Wesley Allen Bedroom Daybed 4320: A sofa by day and a comfy bed at night.

Acceptance

You have to accept the fact that a tiny house is not like your traditional home. You won’t be able to put in the same amount of stuff or even your junk, indoors. Also, decide on how you will set up your parking spot. Your tiny home is not an RV it is not going to be moved. Since this is so, plant the house in a spot where you think you will be able to thrive.

Most tiny house owners buy land. There are those who choose to stay mobile instead so they live in an RV and they keep moving about. These are huge decisions that you have to make soon and you better have a clear head as you make your final yeses.

Prepare for Maintenance Tasks

Even a tiny home will have its maintenance jobs. Not long after you get used to climbing ladders or cooking in a much smaller kitchen, the next adjustment would be to keep an eye on your propane levels, be wary of faulty appliances, and winterizing.

Is Your Home Style Casual?

Monday, March 12th, 2018

The Summer Collection from Fine Furniture Design is the perfect setup for a casual ambiance. It is comfy yet amazingly elegant.

A home of apartment design that is sleek, convenient, and comfortable is casual. It is often discreet yet beautiful and its decorative elements are all displayed tastefully. This interior design is best for people who want to preserve their individuality.

Casual Style Features

In a nutshell, casual interior design is all about using natural fabrics and materials. It is a fusion of sophistication, chic, and simplicity. Being casual is not pretentious and is never congested.

Casual interiors also have delicate colors. It makes good use of white, beige, mint, sand, light pink, gold, and some accents in exciting colors such as dark red, orange, black, and purple.

Texture is also a huge part of using this design. Everything that you place indoors must be smooth to the touch. You can also experiment in mixing geometric with smooth lines.

Basically, casual style is all about convenience and comfort. It is about freedom and being cozy. Casual style never comes with stringent laws as it is carelessly elegant.

Casual design is also the epitome me of border rejection; it is refined, though, and it has its amazing furnishings to boost.

Casual Design History

The casual interior design was born when there was already a clamor for a response against the artificial styles that were dominating the interior design industry. Homes that were devoid of comfort or were pretentious had to be offset by the simple beauty that was offered by casual homes.

Casual is defined by the boundaries of the terms every day and unintentional. This is the very style of life. Is it unobtrusive, simple, yet elegant.

Casual Furniture

If you want to begin investing in casual furniture, then you would need to buy comfy sofa, a huge bed (but minus the frills and sass), low tables, and wicker armchairs or streamlined seating units. Go for things that are pleasant yet soft. Choose bright palettes that can be combined with the most common material that casual homes have – wood.

Remember that the more comfortable the furniture pieces are, the more that they become a part of the casual environment that you are trying to set up. If you have to have them covered, then use neutral colors such as gray, tan, off-white or beige. Other colors would look good in a casual habitat, too, such as soft pastels.

And now that spring is approaching, you have the leeway to experiment with lovely pastel colors such as mint, powder blue, soft pink, and sunny yellow.

Casual Textile

As for textiles, you should go for – again – comfort and anything that’s natural. It must be pleasant to the touch. The curtains need to be light yet long.  The fabrics that are used on furniture or the pillows are often textured. You will find interesting weaves on natural fibers such as linen, cotton, and wool.

Even new synthetic weaves already offer a durable and a natural look.

Casual Is Most Appropriate When…

The casual interior design is actually universal. Practically anyone who likes comfortable living in a cozy home will thrive in a casual environment. If you love bright-colored kitchens with wooden furniture complete with ceramic vases on display and a lovely wood flooring, then you’re pro-casual.

If living rooms that come with fruit platters and comfy but not plush sofas enamor you then you also tend to veer towards the casual style.

Always remember that the keyword to doing a casual style in your home is to have less decorative elements. Always act in moderation.

Why be Casual?

If you are a person who loves the beauty in simplicity, then you should definitely design your home with this style. Casual is, after all, the absence of pretense. It is the freedom in styling, one where you can use both simplicity and smart designs.

Chesterfield Sofa: Standing Out from the Rest

Sunday, March 11th, 2018

Hancock and Moore Living Room Chesterfield Loveseat 8171

One of the most sought-after sofa styles is the Chesterfield sofa. If you haven’t learned this yet, it is also one of the oldest types there is. It was able to withstand many fashion and design evolutions insomuch that its resurgence is a welcome thing these days.

The Chesterfield sofa is touted as the king of all sofas. This title did not come all because of its size but also because it offers a huge amount of comfort to homes and businesses.

The Chesterfield is available as a sofa, as a chaise, or even as an armchair. If you want to bring home the best kind, then you have to learn how to shop for this unique seat and to consider some of the elements that will make it shine –

Comfort Is Key

Since you are buying a classic couch, you don’t have to rely solely on aesthetics. The number thing that you should look into is comfort. It is best to check out and sit in the sofa to experience the comfort that a Chesterfield can give. Many of the pieces here at McCreery’s Furnishings have improved the traditional style. Lower back support is guaranteed which is, of course, critical when you want to optimize comfort all day long.

Now you might ask if you would still need throw pillows to prop you up when you read? The answer is no – the multi-density foam consists the heavy cushions. These are further wrapped in durable fabrics or a down feather blend.

Expect nothing but the best with each gorgeous Chesterfield.

Chesterfield Balances Modern Elements

A Chesterfield, on its own, is already an impactful piece of furniture. Since it is a bold piece of furniture, there is a need to balance it with modern or rustic elements. This furniture needs to be integrated with artwork, some exciting colors, and an area rug that can subtly anchor it.

If you want the Chesterfield to become the focal point in the room (more often than not this is the case), then you have to surround it with neutral elements.

It is best to position a Chesterfield right in the middle of a room. It might look like it’s floating but this is the position that will give it a distinctive look. If you do this, then you automatically create a conversation piece with it. While the seat will not block the view from across the room, it will still be able to define this seating space within the overall space.

You might have noticed how many hotel and building lobbies use Chesterfields as floating pieces. This is because a Chesterfield exudes sophistication even without trying hard.

Chesterfield Is Classic and Trending

A Chesterfield sofa, historically, rocked many homes and commercial spaces with its lovely velvets. It may appear traditional but it can also be trending if you use a more experimental color for your couch. The traditional hues include de3ep blue, ruby red, emerald green, and other gem tones. If you want to be different, then go for velvet still but this time, experiment with purple, orange or yellow. Just about any exciting hue would do.

If you’re thinking of using a Chesterfield in a contemporary home, then you still won’t go wrong. If you do so, you would have to opt for brighter colors such as what was mentioned (orange, yellow or stark white). And whatever happens, always choose the upholstery wisely.

Many fabrics are now in the market for your picking. There are those that are fade-resistant. There are also those that can resist stain which is great for homes that still want to look stylish despite having younger kids and pets.

Imagine spending your mornings in this bright and airy ambiance. Featured furniture pieces are from the Deco Collection of Fine Furniture Design.

Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to just bask under the sun? Natural light has many known health benefits both emotional as well as physical. This is why more and more homeowners are rethinking their homes’ designs so that they can enjoy more Vitamin D in their households. Do you wanna know which benefits you can also enjoy right in your own home?

Sunlight Is a Natural Mood Booster

Have you heard of the seasonal affective disorder? This is a kind of depression which is caused by longer seasons of dismal weather. This same effect can be felt if you don’t let in sunlight into your home each day. Many studies have suggested that enough exposure to natural light each day can provide many health benefits especially when it comes to the person’s disposition.

Sunlight Regulates the Circadian Rhythm

When you tend to spend more time indoors, your sleep-wake cycle also known as the circadian rhythm goes haywire. No artificial lighting can duplicate natural light’s role in the body’s production of the melatonin.

Melatonin is the hormone that is responsible for the human body’s sleep and sleep-wake cycle. This is a chemical that is produced by the pineal gland as night falls. The body clock is influenced by this since it is responsible for cuing the right time to sleep.

Sunlight Helps Conserve Energy

The more natural light a structure harnesses, the less energy is consumed in that building or house. Eventually, you get to save money, too, since you won’t use as much lighting during the day as when every window is shut and you have the thickest draperies installed.

Sunlight Improves Vision

New research has shown that exposure to natural light is actually healthy for the eyes. It has been observed that those who do not wear sunglasses when they go out have their visions improve while people who work at night tend to be more susceptible to different forms of cancer and other illnesses.

Sunlight Enhances Natural Views

If you let the sunlight flood into your home, then you also open the windows or, at the very least, you have glass windows which all look out to the beauty of nature outdoors. These great views aren’t just for aesthetics anymore because studies have also shown just how much patients who have undergone surgery have improved when they have a view of the scenic outdoors. Compared to the ones who remain in an enclosed room, the patients who had the views got better a lot faster.

Now that you know all the benefits that come with natural light, it’s time to open those windows and follow these guidelines so that you will begin to enjoy health and wellness –

Install Mirrors

What better way is there to reflect light all throughout your home than to hang some mirrors? The more mirrors that you have, the more light will be able to bounce from one wall to the next. Be sure to hang mirrors right across the windows or your glass doors so that you will maximize the sunlight during the day.

Paint with Light Colors

Light colors – just like mirrors – are able to reflect the natural light. These are replicate the beauty of light more than the dark paints. So if you want to optimize natural lighting, be sure to paint with cool tones such as cream, eggshell blue, powder blue, and just about any pastel color there is.

Reposition Furniture

Sometimes, all it takes to have more natural light into your home is to move a few furniture pieces around. It could be that your huge sofa is blocking the light that is supposed to stream in from the living room windows. Just move that piece a few feet and you should have a more awesome ambiance.

If all of the above guidelines fail, then ask for an expert to assess how you can install a skylight in your home.

All About Four-poster Beds

Friday, March 9th, 2018

American Cherry Collection: Featured furniture is the Bridgeport Pencil Post Queen Bed.

One of the most famous British icons when it comes to elegance and style is the four-poster bed. For many centuries, this bed represented wealth, style, even power. Since the 14th century, though it is believed to have come from Austria, the noblemen exported and propagated the concept to the whole of England. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

Before the Industrial era in Britain, castles and homes alike were often cold. These were places that did not have central heating. Though the four poster bed now represents opulence, it was originally born out of need.

The tester (as it was known back then) or canopy allowed for curtains to be draped or hung all around the bed. These did a wonderful job of keeping the cold air while keeping the sleeping royals warm as they slept throughout the night.

It is no wonder that this cold nation immediately embraced the idea of a four poster bed since it did not just provide warmth but also offered privacy. To royalty, this was, of course, most essential especially since bedrooms back then were shared spaces where servants also sleep in the same room with the lord or the lady. This is so they are ready to serve them the moment the royalty awoke.

Medieval England showed a development in the four poster bed in terms of being a representation of social status. The wealthiest were able to specify their bed requirements and, pretty soon, this bed became a statement of royalty and luxury.

Only the most talented men were asked to carve the four-poster beds for royalty and the noblemen. These beds were detailed and they even showed symbols such as the family’s coat of arms. The heavier and the bigger the bed was, and the more intricately carved, the better. There were even exotic materials that were added such as colorful paintings as well as hunting scenes, knights, and monsters.

Four Poster Bed Types

Traditionally, as the name pretty much states, four-poster beds have four posts. There is a post on each corner and these connected to a top panel which served as the canopy. The English referred to the canopy as the roof of their bed. There were even posts that stood away from the frame of the bed and made their way to the floor. A few posts were 18” in diameter.

During the Tudor era, four-poster beds were mainly heavy and very large. These beds were often attached to wall paneling because their weight needed extra support. Curtains were hung and draped around the bed for privacy and even for protection against insects.

As heating methods were developed, there was no longer any use for the canopy. There are now four-poster beds that are just connected to the mainframe and hanging curtains became optional.

The modern era welcomed a sleeker and less ornate four poster bed and beech wood became fashionable.

Four Poster Bed Functions

In most Tudor households, the ladies also used their bedroom as their living room, therefore, it was not uncommon for them to host social gatherings there. When a nobleman dies, he usually left his bed to his widow.

The four-poster bed holds a lot of memories for royalty especially when this became a husband’s deathbed. It is also possible that this same bed was the bed where she gave birth to all of her children.

The four-poster bed also is worth a huge deal of money so it is a lot more than mere sentimental inheritance.

Today, the story is no different. The four-poster bed still exudes elegance and beauty and it still can be made into a precious heirloom passed on from generation to generation.

French Doors: Of Privacy and Beauty

Friday, March 9th, 2018

The French doors serve as the perfect frame for the Hooker Furniture Bedroom Chatelet King Upholstered Panel Bed.

French doors are known for allowing privacy in homes and providing the best visual connection outdoors.  These often connect the patio to the living room of a home. They can also open out to the backyard patio or a deck and could be used with an efficient screen door system.

French doors are also found in between the kitchen and the dining room or the dining room and the living room. These doors become instrumental in providing ample light between these spaces. Sometimes, blinds and curtains are installed just as windows are provided with a relevant window treatment.

Did you notice that the most popular design is that of the divided-glass-panes type?

The French Door History

Believe it or not, French doors have been known to exist as early as the 17th century. They were most prominent during the end of the Renaissance period of architecture and art. It was during this period that the world was welcoming fresh ideas to be integrated into constructing structures. Architecture centered on regularity, symmetry, as well as proportion. But there was a constant demand for more light to be let into rooms.

This necessity brought about the birth of the separated glass panes which are now pretty prominent in all French doors. Having windows incorporated into doors allowed more light to pass through, thus, people then enjoyed light especially since this was an era before electricity was discovered.

Stylize with French Doors

Decorating with a French door means you are ready to show some style. You are not just showcasing the beauty of the interiors of your home, these doors could also add up to the lovely look of your home outdoors.

French doors come with small windows which are referred to as lights. These are all set to the full length of each door. These were not built to offer privacy but are there to bring more light into the home. They are also decorative.

French doors were made previously with wood and wrought iron. These were used for more for their stylizing functions. As time went by, more sturdy materials like aluminum and PVC were also used. These were used because they are lightweight in spite of being sturdy.

French Door Types

There are various kinds of French doors to choose from. The one style that you settle for should depend greatly on the concept or design that you have also chosen for your home.

The interior French doors were made to connect a room to the next one. In essence, these doors serve as wall partitions between the two rooms. An exterior French door, on the other hand, are exposed outdoors. These doors allow the sunlight to stream through the living room at all times during the day. These also enhance the beauty of the living room as natural light showcases the beauty of the furnishings.

Just make sure to have fabrics that can withstand the rays of the sun when you have this kind of French doors.

The pocket French doors slide into walls instead of opening using a traditional hinge. These allow for more space to be utilized inside a room. Whether you decide to use it in the living room, kitchen, or the dining room, you have a wonderful space-saver in pocket French doors.

The bi-fold French doors have 2-4 sections that automatically fold into pairs. These can open from the left or right. These are often used in indoor closets. The multi-fold French doors serve as hall or room dividers. They are mostly designed for spaces where a folding door is needed.

Lastly, the sliding French door is best for when you want to leave enough space in a room. These are great for balconies and patios.

Display Cases and Your Collections

Thursday, March 8th, 2018

Fine Furniture Design’s Cachet Collection: The Wall Etagere

If you’re still thinking that bookcases are merely for books, then you belong to a bygone era. People nowadays know that there are more uses for bookcases or display cases but, mostly, they are there for style statement and to showcase collections and pieces of artwork.

Pay one museum a visit and you’d know the importance of display cases. Glass cabinets are also quite common in many retail stores since they are the best furnishing to showcase what needs to be sold. Also, glass display cases often evoke sophistication and class. No wonder all the diamond engagement rings are displayed in beautiful glass cases.

But where would you begin when you’re about to shop for a display case? There are some things that you need to assess when buying a sturdy and stylish display case.

Display Case Size

You need to measure the space where you are going to display your collections. Assess your needs by knowing what sort of collections will be displayed into this storage unit. Measuring will narrow down the display case size so you can now focus on your style choices.

Don’t forget to measure the shelf space if you intend to buy a display case with a fixed shelving. Always factor in the head room to your measurements.

Also, it wouldn’t hurt if you double check the dimensions. Display cases vary greatly when it comes to sizes so it is best to carefully measure the ones that will fit your room. Consider also if there’s a window, you should measure the space between the wall and the window.

Always take the measurements with you as you go shopping. Check these numbers against the dimensions of the display cases. The key is to make sure that the display case is aptly-sized so that it won’t jut out far from the wall which could impede foot traffic.

Consider also if there are doors on your display case choices. These doors may keep your collections safe from dust but they tend to open out. This means that you have to measure the amount of space that these doors eat up whenever they are opened.

You could opt for sliding glass doors if you have limited space.

Display Case Materials

A display case will be able to serve its purpose no matter what kind of collections you will put in it. You have to consider, however, that there are materials that will last longer than others. There are also materials that are more difficult to move around.

Solid hardwoods such as walnut, maple and oak, as well as metals, are a great way to go since they are known to last for many years. However, you have to consider that you may not be able to move your display case about because of the weight of such materials. Since this is so, you might want to decide on a final placement for your showcase.

Don’t be tempted into buying display cases made with cheap materials. Layers of thin boards are commonly used in making bookcases – and they may be cheap – but these won’t last. Remember that sturdier materials don’t just last long, they also tend to look a lot more stylish than the dirt-cheap ones.

Finish or Style

Keep in mind that what looks great in one home might not suit another. So before you make your final decision with regard to the style and finish, be sure to consider all of your options. There are bold-colored display cases if you really want them. If you favor the more traditional look then you should search for the best rustic style display cases.

Here are the zones and things that you need to clean in the –

Foyer

It’s time to dust the lighting fixtures. They’ve been hard at work during winter so it’s time to clean them up. This is also the perfect time to wash the trim and walls. Clean also the knobs, doors, as well as the switch plates.

Dust the bench and other furnishings. If your seats come with cushions, then this is also the time to have them laundered.

Go and check the closets. The best way to tackle this is to empty it out. Sort the stuff you are ready to give or throw away.

Bedrooms

Right after opening the windows, it’s time to get down and dust the furniture especially the bed. Have the drawers cleaned out. Remove the items then place them back only once you’ve donated those that you no longer need and use.

Move the bed then sweep and vacuum beneath it. Check also the stuff that you store underneath your bed.

Have the curtains and bedding removed and replaced with fresh ones. Wash the duvet and pillows, too. Air out the mattress so you won’t have to worry about bed bugs.

Living Room

After letting in some breeze into the room, it’s time to vacuum the seats. Spot clean as much as possible. Dust all the shelves, decorative items, and furniture. Clean all the lamps, window sills, windows, and window screens.

Clean the electronic items as well and be sure to tidy up the wires. Spring is also the perfect time to sort your DVDs and music collections. Purge all the items that are no longer needed or wanted. Donate all the books and magazines that no longer suit anyone’s interest.

As for the toys, be sure to wash each of them with warm, soapy water. Rinse then allow to dry. As for the stuffed toys, have them dry cleaned. Again, donate those that your kids no longer play with.

Clean all the floors as well as the walls, trim, knobs, even the vent covers.

Dining Room

As for the dining room, you should take down and wash the curtains. Wipe the tables and chairs then dust every furnishing. If there are cushions or chair pads, be sure to clean those, too.

If you have time, polish the table then create a lovely spring vignette to welcome the upcoming season.

Shine the silverware and glassware.

Bathroom

Just like you did with all the other rooms, open the windows and empty all of the cabinets. Be sure to replace all the items that have been used or are expired. Wipe and clean the cabinets and vanities. Be sure to clean the bathtub and apply some wax if necessary.

Clean the shower drain as well as the drains on the sinks.  Check the faucets and see if everything is working. Shine each one just as much as you clean and make the mirror shine.

Dust all the bathroom lighting fixtures. Reseal any grout lines that need a little retouching.

Kitchen

Just after opening the windows, remove and clean the window coverings. Check the drawers and cabinets then remove items that no longer have any use. Place any items back that you would still use.

Be sure to sharpen the knives and to clean and organize the rest of the cutlery. Clean also the stove top and remove any elements that just clutter the fridge and your freezer.
