Creating the Meditation Nook

The Bernhardt Interiors Accessories Double Flange 24-in x 24-in LP105 can be your meditation companion.

The power of meditation and its importance in improving one’s life cannot be stressed enough. If this activity is new to you, then you may still be wondering what benefits it can actually offer.  You might wonder how sitting – without making any noise – in one corner can benefit you. If stress is already taking its toll on your life, then it’s time to consider a few minutes of me time.

Meditation is a form of relaxation which can be achieved by joining a class, repeating a certain mantra or proper breathing. The benefits that come with such activities include –

Stress reduction

A stronger immune system

Lower blood pressure

Sleep improvement

And rejuvenation.

Now that you know the importance of meditation, you could try to create a special room or even just a nook in your home where you could go about with your chosen form of meditation.

Find a Relaxing Locale

If you happen to have a beautiful landscape outdoors, then that’s the best spot to be so long that the weather permits. Those lush greens, a patch of flowery plants or a corner with cascading water is simply difficult to beat. But there’s also the slight chance that the room near such areas is already the master bedroom or a dining room.

Should you have a room that does not have this wonderful sight, don’t fret. You can still set up any room with windows (so there’s ample natural light during the morning). You can simply hang a painting or a meditation poster with your mantra on one of the walls. This poster can also depict your ideal greenery.

Keep It Hygienic

Meditation also requires a clean mind so, naturally, the place where you’re supposed to do this activity must also be sanitized.

Another way to keep the room or zone clean is to make sure that natural light hits it during the day. Use sheer curtains if you don’t want to be hit with direct sunlight. If you like meditating in the evening, then you can just install a soft light. Should you prefer softer light, then see how you can install some dimmers.

Be sure to set up a mat so you don’t meditate directly on your floor. Find a yoga mat or have a low-height, comfy mattress. Even a soft throw would do as would a chair that properly supports your back.

Fresh Air Galore

It also helps that the environment is also well-ventilated. It greatly helps if you would feel a cool breeze while you’re meditating. The freshness of the air can also be felt when the room smells nice. You can also choose from various fragrances that are meant to calm the senses (e.g. chamomile, bergamot, jasmine, mandarin, sandalwood, vanilla, lilac, rose, etc.).

Declutter

Try to aim for a wide and open space rather than a tight one. This should give you a more relaxed ambiance. A stuffy room, whether in terms of limited space or having a lot of stuff in there will definitely interfere with the relaxation level that you’re trying to achieve with your meditation.

Another form of decluttering is to keep the mobile devices and any type of device out of your meditation room. This is the time to rejuvenate so don’t spend this getting cranky over your emails, phone calls or text messages.

Play Soft Music

If you’re the type who wants to play some music while meditating, then go for some any kind of relaxing, soft music. Instrumental music has also been observed to enhance the experience of meditation. Otherwise, you could just go ahead and meditate in complete silence.

That’s it. It doesn’t take much to set up your meditation hideout, does it?
