Bench Is Versatility

The Humphrey Bogart Studio Bench makes this bedroom ensemble appear more classic.

Did you know that the terms form and bench can actually be interchanged? Both refer to elongated and backless seating that is made of wood. Back in the day, the bench may have been movable and freestanding – no different than what they also are today.

The bench has also been accepted as the traditional work surface for the busy cabinetmaker. So, yes, there is a cabinetmaker’s workbench.

A bench is the most common seating unit back in those days when chairs were reserved especially for the nobles and the royalty. Now we know why the term chairman is used for the leader or most important person in a group.

The Bench Prototypes

Benches weren’t always stylish. Every type then was basic and simple consisting only of a wooden plank that is supported on both ends by a stretcher or brackets.

Later on, benches were already being made with joined legs. To the people back then, this was an extended joint stool. There is a point where the legs extend past the seat in order to form a back and the sides. This was called the settle.

Just like the bench, a settle may also be freestanding or installed right onto the wall.

The bench can also be an extension of your chests. This can also be used as a seat especially during the years when chairs were already becoming more common.

Whether supported by individual legs or solid ends, the bench can be squared or has splayed supports. The solid ends are made with ogee-shaped outlines. The individualized legs could be chamfered, square or turned.

Let’s Get Versatile

File cabinets are so last Tuesday so you go ahead and swap yours with a cushioned bench and a hidden storage underneath. Add your folders and other office stuff for concealed storing.

Bin ‘Em

You can also set up a place for your little ones where there are lined up benches in their playroom. Line up also the bins underneath the benches so that your kids will have a place to put away their toys after playing.

The bench and bin combo is a proven team up that many parents have benefitted from.

Party Platter Concealer

‘Ever thought how you can hide your big serving trays? These may be helpful during the most raving parties but they also take up a lot of space.

Worry no more because you can now have benches lined then you can store plates and platters in boxes placed underneath.

The Tall Boot Compartment

You can also create a compartment for your stylish boots. Just line up two to three benches and you should have ample space to put your shoes on. If you have a large family, then this is also the perfect spot for all of you to place your shoes.

A Footrest

You can also cozy up inside the bedroom by setting up a footrest.

The bench can also perfectly work as a footrest. You can place a fresh towel there as well as a few books to read during the evening.

A Bookshelf

The bench can also be used as a furniture piece to hold your book collection. Imagine your Harry Potter hardbound books all lined up below a long bench. The bottom of this furniture piece can hold other books that you and your loved ones really love to read.

Bench Materials to Choose From

The most durable bench materials include those that are made of metal. Metal can last for years and are best used in high-traffic zones.

Wooden benches are also a great choice. These are often crafted with solid and thick legs. This is the kind of bench that can hold a number of people all at once.

Other materials for the bench include plastic, bamboo, stone, and concrete.
