Have you started decorating yet? This is the perfect time to start prepping for the activities that are about to take place. If not, you’re risking feeling stressed over the holiday season.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to make the holidays special. More often than not, though, these days bring in a lot stress (emotionally, physically, financially, etc.). Don’t let the holiday rush get to you. Here are some tips that you can prepare yourself – and your home – for the holidays –

Planning and Budgeting Are Key

As always, planning will help you keep your sanity intact. Sit down with a cup of hot cocoa, a notebook or your laptop and the desk calendar. Dump anything that you’re doing at the moment and make time for this.

Include family traditions, work and church events, even community activities on your planning. List also the people whom you would want to give gifts to as well as the parties that you are planning to attend. Try to remember or investigate family activities during the holidays. What special sights can you visit as a family?

Holiday outings can be fun. Make a list of parades and activities in your locality then try to make the most out of the holidays. You could go ice skating, decorate sugar cookies, or watch certain movies.

Keep this list realistic. There is nothing more stressful than packing your calendar with activities that you’d end up not being able to attend. Remember that you’re only human so you can only do so much.

Have a holiday planner if you have to and include the budget for the holidays, too.

Calculate how much money you are willing to set aside for every gift. Write down your budget. This will serve as your guide as the holidays set in. Budgeting will also avoid uncomfortable situations. Speak with your extended family.

Shop Early

If you religiously listed all the names of the people who will receive a gift from you, then you can now shop early. Parents who have kids to think about each Christmas even layaway early so that they are not tempted to use their credit cards as Christmas day approaches.

Who says you can’t shop for Christmas gifts as early as September?

And as you give, it’s time to consider the longevity of the gift. If you want to be remembered longer, then you can give furniture as a gift. An accent table will surely last longer than a dress.

Declutter Now

Don’t wait for the holidays before you begin decluttering. Remember that clutter can also contribute to lack of concentration and anxiety. Plus, you will feel calmer in an environment that does not show excesses.

Be sure to clean the pantry and the refrigerator. The non-perishables that you haven’t used for a long time can now be donated.

Clean also the bathrooms, the kids’ rooms, master bedroom, and just about every nook and cranny in your home. The secret is to purge anything that you don’t really need or want. Take a few hours each day to clean the spaces in your home.

Make the Reservations

You can also purchase your flights as early as September, this way, you are not rushed or forced to buy seats that you don’t want or transport options and hotels that don’t coincide with your plans.

Repair and Decorate

A part of purging and decluttering is to clean the gutters, roof, ceiling, nooks, and just about every spot in your home. And as soon as you’re done with the maintenance and repairs for the fireplace, electrical and plumbing systems it’s time to grab the totes from the basement or the garage and decorate.

Go with the Thanksgiving décor first then slowly fuse the Christmas elements as the days pass.

Halloween is right around the corner and the Christmas season is also about to unfold.
