Working from home means your office will always be subjected to different kinds of distractions, yet you have to learn to make your home office the center of your productive work life again.

A Room You can Enjoy In

Consider your strategy well. It is but reasonable that you would set up a room where it is possible to feel joy. And since you’re also aiming for productivity, then you might as well add that to your agenda.

Ask yourself, therefore, what would put me in a more productive mood? Now this is a really important question to answer.

Consider your goals since these may prod you to begin designing a more productive work space.

How about minimalism? If you don’t use your pens and papers most of the time, then why not put them on a place other than your work desk? All the clutter that you can pick up from that important table must be chucked but make sure that those pens and papers are accessible should the need for them arise.

If the cosmetic change does not trigger a more productive mood for you, then think of other factors that could affect your productivity.

Play Your Favorite Tunes

If you’re the type who likes to work while listening to some soulful music, then get quality speakers and attach them to your laptop. Prepare your playlist so that your creativity may be piqued once again.

A lot of people discover that upbeat music actually makes them want to work some more – and, yes, that’s what you actually need.

There are, of course, those who cannot think straight if there are tunes playing in the background. If this is your case, then set up your home office in an area where there’s the least amount of traffic.

Keep Distractions Away

Or at least to a bare minimum. Keep your children, even your pets, away from your work area. Your playful little ones could become a source of annoyance especially when they start running around so it is best to have a home office far from the playroom.

The basement is a wonderful area to be redecorated and repurposed as your new home office. At the end of the day, it is still your self-discipline that truly counts so, yup, resist the urge to keep taking a break.

Bring In Some Greenery

Plants are known to be aesthetically pleasing. The greater news is that they can even help produce oxygen. Place a pot or two within your home office so that the relaxing greens would have your brain’s RAM running.

You can also place the plants right outside the window where you placed your office desk against (this is if your home office does not have ample space to accommodate the greens).

Light and Color

The color of the walls that would best influence your work mood is blue. Research has proven this while green enhances, balance, yellow moves your emotions and red affects your body.

The blue walls don’t have to be electric blue. You can go for the uber fashionable color this 2017 which is turquoise blue.

Proper lighting is also a critical part of your productive home office setup. The quality as well as the character of your light can increase your energy, reduce eye strain and headaches, and will also make you work more effectively.

Natural light will always be the best source of light for your home office. If this isn’t possible to have, then consider workspace illumination. Just be sure to have the indirect type of lighting because you wouldn’t want to work under direct, glaring lights.

Invest in articulated or adjustable desk lamps. Add some ambient lighting so that your home office will have its own visual character.

One of the most difficult things to do when you’re a freelancer is to stay motivated on your task.
