Hooker Furniture Bedroom Sturbridge King Panel Bed w/ Storage Footboard: Point out the elements that make this bedroom a restful place.
The bedroom is not normally displayed so it is quite easy to overlook in terms of design. Yet the bedroom is a space where you would spend more than a third of your life so you have to find ways to make this space as comfy as possible. So what are the most common errors in designing this important part of every home?
Picking the Wrong Nightstand
This is not a matter of what you use the bedside table for. In fact, it’s all about picking the nightstand that complements the size, height, and design of your bed. Finding a nightstand that is too low would make getting that novel or a glass of water much more difficult. You may not think that much yet of these today but they will matter when you’re already dozed off.
Limited Lighting
Every bedroom should have more than one set of lights. Mix both ambient and task lighting because, believe it or not, you will need both. Consider how you often use the bedroom. If you read before you sleep at night, you will definitely need a bedside wall sconce or a lamp. Find one that you can easily switch on or off without walking to it. If you can invest in a dimmer switch that works with a motion sensor, then that would be awesome.
Pick a soft-shaded bedside lamp that you can easily dim when you already need to adjust its brightness.
Wrong Area Rug Placement
Even the most stylish homes could commit this mistake. So where’s the correct position for an area rug?
Rather than have an area rug placed at the end of your bed, have it placed beside it. Put it on the side where you wake up in the morning so that your feet will land on the plush rug the moment you decide to get out of bed.
You might find this a tad too simple but even this simple switch can make a huge difference in the way you take on your day.
You’ll see.
No Device Storage
Sleep experts agree that you need to have a spot where you could store your technological devices at night. Most people – even when experts advise against using phones as alarms – still sleep near their devices. If there is no room for a nightstand for now, then you could buy just a small shelf for your phone and other devices.
Cords on Haywire
What could be more cumbersome than to see cords that are thicker than Medusa’s snaky curls? Even when you think that you might not bring in your smartphone or laptop in the bedroom, eventually you will. And so you will need a good charging dock as well as a storage space for these as well as their respective chargers.
Not Trusting in Feng Shui
What’s wrong with believing in energy or chi? The Chinese believe in an optimal position for the bed. This is supposed to be placed in the command position or in a spot that is away from the door but at an angle where you still get to see the door.
Have the bed positioned where there is space all around it, with the headboard against one of the walls. This belief in the flow of energy also makes sense on the practical level. For instance, leaving space around your bed will allow someone who enters to move with ease.
Try it and you’ll soon feel the difference.
Uncoordinated Furnishings
What could be more wrong than to have a large bedroom but all the stuff there seem to contradict one another? Take time to create a harmony in the bedroom. After all, this is where you will rest so it should be free from clutter and distracting pieces.
