The Unpretentious Dining Room: The 12, 8 and 6-Seater Options

Protege Dining

Whether you decide to use your dining room for every day meals or only for special occasions, this is a room that’s not just a place to eat with your spoon and fork. You can make use of layering and rich colors to in order to maximize the layout of your dining area.

Your dining room should be a multi-purpose area especially inside smaller habitats. Yet even larger apartments or houses should still acquire ample airtime.

The 12-Seater

A traditional layout is best for families who want to have a more inviting and comfortable ambience.  This is a more formal setting so you need to carefully choose your elements. You wouldn’t want to leave the room looking bland.

For the table, use the largest that you can find. As much as possible, find the one that has extendable leaves especially if you are keen on entertaining huge crowds. If you’re not going to use this table for formal occasions, then just take out the leaves and make it smaller once again.

The chairs for this setup should be able to break up the conference room sort of setup. Find chairs with different styles for both ends of the table. The rest of the side chairs should come in the same style. If you’re feeling more artistic, you can still experiment with other side chairs. The more mix matching you do, the more the setting would describe you.

Add bookshelves to make the room more interesting. You can multitask inside the dining area – you can do your homework there, also study there, or you can unwind at night with a mug of hot coffee.

As for the light, be sure to use multiple layers. Don’t default into placing the lighting source overhead. Sconces that are about 52 inches off the ground and in between bookshelves would look great. You can also flank a buffet or server with a pair of sconces.

The 8-Seater

This layout is also known as the pass-through dining room which was common during pre-war. You can begin decorating here by creating distinct areas that will help define the room.

The best table for this kind of layout is a round center table. This should be placed in the bigger area right between the window and the pass-through.

Chairs for this setup must be armless pieces since they will be placed all around the circular table. The slender types are also more preferred. You can put in a few extra pieces that will make this dining room more unique. Add a buffet at the side, a large mirror or even an abstract painting.

The rug must end right before the pass-through zone. This is so you can unify the dining area. Make sure also that the dining table and chairs do not sit entirely on the rug. Those pieces that are on the sides of the room such as console tables or sideboards should be totally off the rug.

The 6-Seater

The dining room can have additional functions with the two previous layouts but this one can help maximize the dining slash living options in a home that is space-challenged.

A smaller space that offers an open dining area must have a dining table that offers comfort. A petite table can also be used to serve appetizers or be utilized as a desk during non-dining moments.

As for the chairs, these should all be portable. They must also be versatile enough so that you can move around the room with each in tow.

The living area must have a cozy sofa and end tables. You and your guests should be able to converse or watch the TV there.
