Space Expansion: Living in a Cozy Home
Even the tiniest homes can be cozy. Sometimes, though, it could also feel that the walls are seemingly closing or caving in. This is why you should do everything in your power to create the illusion of space in your home.
Space Expansion through Small Furniture
Staying sane in a small home can be a bit tough if you don’t have the slightest idea on how to make the space open up. Most of the time, all it takes is the right size and shape of furniture, carefully laid out, to make the place a lot more inviting.
Adding a fold-up table, for instance, means you can still use the extra space that this table saves the moment you fold it up. Just imagine the square footage that is now freed up and the kitchen that is no longer cramped all because you decided to get furniture that can be stored out of sight once it is not being used.
Extra Storage Means More Space
Another way to free up space in your tiny home is to add storage units such as cabinets, shelves and drawers into spaces that normally just go to waste. Such spaces include the areas under the stairs, right by the window sill, or those corners that can no longer be the location for bulky furniture.
Lighting Opens Up Space
The use of ceiling light has long been deemed as an effective way to open up space. Lighting has always had a great impact on any home. The best designers know that it is easy to alter the perception of any living space with the use of the correct kind of lighting.
Track lighting design is improving each year. This means that many small rooms can now look much better because the best kinds of illumination are now available. For the most beautiful designs of ceiling light, you may check out this link..
You can also install a skylight so you can have a better view of the outdoors.
Push Out One Wall or Two
If you really need to expand, then try extending one of the rooms in order to gain space. You can use those previously unused spaces such as that walkway that connected your garage to your home. You can also topple down a wall in order to open up the room a bit.
If bringing down a wall or two still does not give you expansion the way you want it, then you can also use reflective surfaces (a.k.a. mirrors) to toss a little light around. Furniture with semi-gloss finishes could also be used to make the room look and feel more expansive.
Bring in a Part of Mother Nature
Bringing in some plants and flowers could make any space appear brighter and livelier. This improvement in mood can also help open up the space. Apart from space expansion, there are other benefits to bringing in houseplants.
First, you can breathe easier as oxygen is released during the day. If you don’t want to worry about plants respiring like humans during the night, then bring in succulents, orchids or epiphytic bromeliads instead.
These indoor plants can also help purify the air and will eventually improve your health. If you want to know how many plants could improve your health, then have at least one large plant brought in.
At the end of the day, you will realize that a huge part of space expansion is all about careful planning. Sometimes, all it takes is the removal or concealment of an overhead beam, or it can be as easy as merely creating the illusion of space with correct furniture placement.
The major rule here is to maximize space since it is limited.
