Shiny Stone and Mirrored Furnishings Add Starlit Feel to Rooms

Chest Penshell

In a sure cure for tired traditional decors, an exciting new trend in home furnishings allows consumers to add a little sparkle to their rooms. According to trend watchers, glamour is back in home decor, stemming from a nostalgic interest in 1940s Hollywood 'starlit' style.

Consumers can achieve that 'starlit' feel through glitzy new home furnishings accents and decorative accessories featuring mother-of-pearl, shiny stone or mirrored fronts and cases. Like music, shine and reflected light have universal appeal. People in all cultures and countries are attracted to "something shiny."

Hooker Furniture has an exciting new array of stunning and glamorous items including mirrored chests, consoles and cocktail tables. The company is featuring two decorative chests covered in pen shell, a shiny stone from Sabu in the Southern Philippines. The hue of the stone on one chest is gold, while the other is in shades of violet.

"Adding a mirrored or pen shell item is like adding jewelry to your room," said Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Design Mike Spece. "This is a trend that we have seen building with designers."

An advantage of mirrored furniture is that it works in every color palette, reflecting the other colors in the room. Hooker's selections of mirrored occasional pieces are in mixed media, blending the mirrored fronts and cases with a wood in a crackled white finish and crystal drawer pulls.
