DREXEL HERITAGE UNVEILS EVOCATIVE NEW BED IN WALT DISNEY SIGNATURE COLLECTION
Bed inspired by Art Deco chaise lounge from 1925 Paris exhibition

High Point, NC (April 7, 2008) –Drexel Heritage is collaborating once again with Disney Consumer Products. For the Spring High Point Market Drexel Heritage is adding a new Art Deco-inspired bed to its Walt Disney Signature furniture collection.

This distinctive piece is reminiscent of a chaise lounge displayed at the celebrated International Exposition of Art Deco Design held in Paris, France, in 1925. It features a sleek, streamlined silhouette fashioned from selected hardwoods and rich Mozambique veneers. It now gets star billing in a this adult collection of furniture that draws heavily from the Art Moderne and Art Deco furnishings found in Walt Disney’s personal studio and living spaces.

First introduced in April 2006 and expanded in October of that year, the Walt Disney Signature furniture collection includes beautiful finishes and details that hark back to the quality and design of the 30’s and 40’s with a contemporary touch. Similarly, inspiration for future Walt Disney Signature collection pieces will draw from the personal style and archival library of the entertainment genius.

The Art Deco Movement, which swept through Europe and the United States in the early Twentieth Century, signaled the beginning of the modern age of design. Drexel Heritage interprets these forms with grace and restraint. The lovely new bed rounds out a collection inspired by a man whose designs, like all of his creative endeavors, were far ahead of his time.

In creating the collection, Drexel Heritage designers were permitted special access to the Disney archives, allowing them to leverage color treatments, art, photography, and design details from Walt Disney’s body of work and his original design and architectural sensibilities.
