LILLIAN AUGUST COLLECTION AT DREXEL HERITAGE
PROVES CLASSICISM IS ALWAYS NEW
Upholstery Additions Capture Classic Signature Style of this Leading Trendsetter

High Point, NC (April 7, 2008)—Lillian August, internationally celebrated furniture and textile designer, expands her Lillian August Collection at Drexel Heritage this Spring with upholstery that beautifully captures her classic, timeless elegance. Her latest silhouettes are dressed in a luxurious wardrobe of aged, glove-soft leathers and a rich and varied palette—from deep cranberry, gold and olive tones to neutrals with accents of citrus yellow, melon and tan.

“While the American decorating style is highly individualistic and creative, it is also infused with historical references,” says Lillian. Her signature furniture collection—with its glorious and gracious English country house élan—keeps the Classic spirit that is her passion, while deftly re-interpreting antique forms in scale and finishes appropriate for today.

“I know that consumers love Classic style, but not its stuffiness,” says Lillian. “Antique furniture is great, but customers prefer sturdier finishes, fine woods, and a variety of beautifully embellished pieces. They want well-priced, high-quality unique furniture that enables them to express their individual design sensibilities.”

Each of Lillian’s well-researched, original designs for the Lillian August Collection is fresh and vital with finishes and fabrics that will stand up to today’s active lifestyles. Earmarks of the occasional pieces are exotic woods and unusual finishes (eglomise, bronze, tortoise, faux bamboo, aged pepper burl) plus exciting accents (gilded carvings, mirrored surfaces, custom hardware). In upholstery, dramatic silhouettes, she feels, are more important than ever, because chairs, especially, become sculptural objects in today’s “cleaned-up” interiors.

Success as an upholstery designer came early—with the introduction of Lillian’s first collection in 1993—and continues with the addition of a dozen new silhouettes this spring that support her trend-setting designs. All are created to work together to fully furnish the well-appointed, pulled-together interior.

Lillian August Spring 2008 Upholstery Introductions
Lillian re-interprets antique upholstery forms by keeping their romantic vintage details and adding comfort through modern scaling and plusher cushioning. Each market, she carefully selects designs and fabrics that will enhance her Classic style and blend beautifully with existing pieces in the Lillian August Collection.

Here are a few highlights from the Spring 2008 Lillian August Collection additions:
• Galeton, a familiar French bergère that’s been revitalized with up-to-date scaling and a luxurious cushion. Dressed in aged glove-soft leather, it is the perfect adornment for living room, library, or family room.

• Exeter chair and ottoman are the ideal put-your-feet up, comfort combination. The chair incorporates 18th century wing chair styling with club chair ease.
The matching half-round ottoman is button tufted. Both sit on bun feet and are clothed in sumptuous aged leather.

• Belvoir, a favorite 18th century wing chair perfectly scaled for today’s interiors. Lovingly adorned in a grey and white over-scaled damask pattern, it features gently flared arms and intricately carved cabriole legs.

• Bronté, cornerstone of the upholstery offerings—an archetypical tuxedo sofa with slightly flared arms and exquisite dressmaker details. This glamorous beauty steps out in a gray, yellow and gold woven jacquard.

• Eastbourne, a picture-perfect 19th century silhouette, restyled for today with high arms, comfy throw pillows, and tapered legs on casters. The featured base cloth is a tailored, small-weave neutral with coordinating pillows in tan, off-white, and camel stripes and patterns.

• Whitstone, reminiscent of the much-loved Chesterfield sofa, this chair is diamond tufted in aged antiqued leather. This masculine design will feel right at home in library, media room or wherever comfort is paramount.

• Burton, a sofa, loveseat, chair combination that offers luxurious perfection in a clean, transitional silhouette. The designs are beautifully attired in taupe and white with mouthwatering melon, citrus yellow, and tan accents. The chair is decked out in a tan and white over-scaled herringbone pattern— a menswear look that Lillian favors. The designs are available with or without skirt treatments.
