The city of Rocklin is located between the ever growing city of Roseville and the small town of Loomis. In the 1850’s minors who came looking for gold began granite quarrying which is probably where the city’s original name, Rock Land, came from. Some suggest that the Finnish who migrated to the area contributed to the name change to Rocklin. At one time during the 1860’s, building what is now known as Folsom Prison was a consideration, but do to the projected Central Pacific Railroad industry, the prison sight was relocated. The Spring Valley Ranch, which is now Stanford Ranch and Whitney Oaks, was the first developed property and some of the first homes for the community. Rocklin has come a long way since the 1800’s. The city is proud to educate the community and is home to the junior college, Sierra Community College, which enrolls thousands of students every year. Not only does the city provide a wonderful community, but Rocklin also has a rich landscape and is a great place to go for a walk or have a picnic.
