The city of Lincoln in California began with the development of the California Central Railroad with the intention of linking Marysville to Sacramento in the 1850’s. A man by the name of Charles Lincoln Wilson was deemed responsible for the railroad expansion and also given credit for the city’s name. In the 1870’s the town settled, coal mining began, and as rich clay deposits were found Lincoln began producing pottery. This led to the establishment of the Gladding, McBean & Co. for which the city’s famous pottery is known. With the development of the Sacramento Metropolitan area extending into Lincoln, the city today is probably more known for the Thunder Valley Casino than its railroad history. For some unknown reason, Lincoln is known as a zebra town with multiple businesses and the high school using the zebra mascot. The city has a unique dog park, beautiful landscape and farming land, and a small town feel community.
